Member Posts: 1990 | Malibu stayed silent, though she allowed her head to tilt upwards. Seeing all of the stars, all of what she had just seen, it was so much. “I need her here.” She mumbled, trudging forward. It seemed like the streets stretched on forever and she was suddenly hit with a enormous wave of drowsiness. She wanted to sleep for moons on end. Her tailtip dragged along the ground, picking up little pieces of dirt and grime. Her bright blue eyes were now dull and pale, sunken into her head and wide.

Blazingpaw crept silently after his sister, carefully placing his paws down as he stalked her. He crouched behind a dumpster, preparing to spring as she came closer. He pounced as she appeared, quickly pinning the unsuspecting she-cat down."Hah!" he cried in triumph, not thinking of why she was sulking.
/\/\/\ Hollowstar perked up as she heard a loud clang in a nearby alley, her green eyes peering into the shadows. As she padded into the enclosed space she spotted her son crouched ontop of her daughter, his loud call reaching her ears just as she spotted them. She sighed as she recalled her deputy's urging a to spend time with her kits before pressing forward and drawing close to the apprentices.

Flowingpaw immediately went back to the encounter with the tom and froze initially, her qualms about being pinned buried as sudden fear-scent and an overwhelming need to run became her primary concern. She screeched and turned around, not recognizing her brother's ginger-striped face before aiming to marr it, distracting just long enough to pelt away . . . right into her mother. She hit hard and staggered, still scared beyond her wildest imagination, panting as she looked at cats she didn't recognize or trust. Fencerunner led Malibu the rest of the way to camp, unsure of what to say that would make the pain go away. Nothing could- it would all seem shallow and cheap. Fencerunner knew that. So the rest of the way was crossed in silence and contemplation. (EcC Camp)

Blazingpaw laughed as Flowingpaw freaked out but stopped as he watched her crash into their mother. He padded closer, an apology on the edge of his tongue but not quite making it out.
/\/\/\ Hollowstar stumbled back as her daughter crashed into her, her eyes wide and scared."Flowingpaw, calm down!" she ordered, her voice stern. She had no clue why she had been so frightened by her brother's attacked and why she did not recognize him or his scent.

Hollowstar's voice was enough to snap Flowingpaw out of it and the she-cat lowered the paw she had been about to lash out with. She blinked, her mint-green eyes meeting her mother's darker ones and dawning with realization. She snapped her head to Blazingpaw, "Wha- I didn't hurt you, did I?" she said first, knowing she'd lashed out at him but not remembering if it had made contact. She looked wild, unkept, her long fur matted in places and dirty in others.

Blazingpaw shook his head."Nah," he said nonchalantly, suddenly recalling her slap but he was sure he would have noticed if claws had connected."I'm fine." He sat down, quickly flattening his ruffled fur before returning his gaze to his mother.
/\/\/\ Hollowstar lifted her chin as Flowingpaw came to her senses."I would expect you to have more sense," she mewed, a slight growl entering her voice."Um...what are you two doing out here?" She was not the best cat at making small talk or talking to cats as if they were equals. She even talked down to other leaders most of the time.

Flowingpaw looked at Hollowstar, unused to the attention. Their mother had been nothing less tan curt to Flowingpaw since the death-berry incident, despite it being long ago. She loved Hollowstar and looked up to her as an unnattainable, titan of a cat who she could only dream to one day be like. "I was on a walk," Flowingpaw said, flashing a glance at her brother to wonder if he would keep the secret, as promised.

"I was...following her," Blazingpaw mewed, tilting his head toward his sister. He drew closer to her, standing where the tips of the fur almost touched.
/\/\/\ "Mind if I join you?" Hollowstar asked, also unused to asking permission. She flexed her sharp claws, scraping them against the pavement as she waited for an answer, impatient due to the fact that she liked to have quick results. Maybe she wasn't suited to be a mother after all. Was this a mistake?

Flowingpaw let her sigh of relief exit slowly as she looked up at Hollowstar. "Why?" she said, more surprised than suspicious. She's never . . . cared . . . before. The she-cat leaned into Blazingpaw, casting him a sidelong glance as siblings did.

Hollowstar twitched an ear in irritation, why did she have to explain for wanting to walk with her own children?"I just want to talk about how your..training is going," she replied. She flicked her tail in annoyance at Fencerunner, why did she push her to do this? This wasn't helping the clan at all and her own daughter didn't seem to want to spend time with her.
/\/\/\ Blazingpaw caught his sister's glance and gave a small nod, urging her to do it. What could they do to mess up their relationship more? Talking would either help them or keep them at the same place they already were.

Flowingpaw took the urging of her brother and settled slightly, her heartbeat easing from her episode earlier. She was reminded of watching one of the queens in the nursery shouting at the medicine cat- Look at it! It's got anxiety~ "I'm . . . good at scavenging," Flowingpaw said, "Free is teaching me a lot about how to notice when there's danger around. He says I'm not observant enough, I just think he's paranoid," she shrugged, welcoming any opportunity to talk about herself. I'm not a gifted fighter, she thought, I don't want to disappoint you.

Blazingpaw perked up."I'm getting really good at fighting," he mewed."And Poseiden lets me practice as long as I want, even if I'm out after dark." He was glad that his mentor wasn't uptight and didn't stick to the rules too closely.
/\/\/\ "Hmm," Hollowstar began leading the way toward the scavenging place so they could at least find some food while they were out."And you both are fine with you mentors, right?" She hoped she had chosen the correct cats to teach her children in the ways of a warrior.

Flowingpaw followed slowly, still feeling out the situation hesitantly. Flowingpaw nodded, "Free's great," she shrugged, "What do you want us to say? They're doing their jobs," she said, though she was secretly miffed that she herself hadn't been apprenticed to a more noteworthy warrior. Befitting her heritage- leaders' kits were mentored by senior warriors. Or the deputy. Not a rogue who'd walked in, asked to join, and been accepted like a fact of life. Her mint eyes wandered up over her mother, admiring the strong tilt of her aged but muscular shoulders and the whiskers that scraped along the brick wall like a sensory spiderweb. She looked like her. Why wasn't she like her in the ways that mattered? Attitude, ability- she lacked those like a rat lacked a sense of humor.

Blazingpaw shrugged, a frown crossing his face."He's okay I guess," he muttered."Not the best, though." He had never voiced his opinion about not being Fencerunner's apprentice to anyone except Flowingpaw, even though he'd denied it, but he couldn't help feeling upset.
/\/\/\ Hollowstar glanced over her kits, they both didn't seem all that happy about their mentors."And how are you keeping up with your duties?" she questioned, rounding a corner slowly and glancing around."I hope you are finding time to enjoy being young." She had never experienced the joys of youth, for her early days had been in the shadows of her disappointed parents and bullies. No matter how hard she pushed herself, they never seemed to see past her weakness' to her strengths. But now she had proved them all wrong.

Flowingpaw sighed- "What was your childhood like, mom?" she said, a conscious decision to try and find out where the differences between the two of them stemmed from.

Member Posts: 3643 | Hollowstar was slightly taken aback by the question and it took her a moment to answer."It certainly wasn't the best," she mewed."I was born far away from here, to two rogues who were part of a large gang who ruled that city. I was the runt of the litter, and in some gangs, the runt doesn't get the chance to grow up and prove themselves. But my mother decided to nurse me because she only had a small litter of three to take care of. I was never trained like my siblings but I watched as they fought and scavenged and learned to copy them almost perfectly. I was also...bullied." She scoffed at that, who would have thought the Eclipseclan's leader had been bullied at a young age? "I always stood up to them but, as you can imagine, I wasn't very good at taking in three cats at once. So, I left." She had never completely revealed her backstory to anyone, only telling them the parts of how she grew up amongst great fighters.

Flowingpaw frowned- she'd thought her own upbringing had been tough. Growing up in the streets of the great EclipseClan's camp, eating every day without thought about who brought the food, and support from the warriors around them, and Flowingpaw still thought she had been dealt the short stick. Hollowstar's story gifted her with perspective and she straightened, backing her mental truck up to re-evaluate what she was doing with her life. She didn't even try- she expected to be like Hollowstar without doing anything remotely resembling work. But even her mother had to work hard- what was she doing with her life? "Was it hard?" Flowingpaw asked, trotting up to walk side-by-side with Hollowstar instead of lagging behind. More as equals, it would seem. Her green eyes held a hint of interest- an emotion she hid well. "Leaving home?" They were at the scavenging place now, but Flowingpaw stuck close as the trash piles grew tall and intimidating aroudn them.

Hollowstar nodded, glancing at the larg dumpsters scattered around the Scavenging Place."As it would be for anyone leaving the only home they know," she replied, glancing around for any rats that were poking around outside the large piles.
/\/\/\ Blazingpaw stayed behind his sister and mother, listening intently to the conversation. He'd never imagined that his mother had come from a place like that. Who would refuse a kit the chance to live? It seems dumb to him, new life made any group strong. If they didn't have kits, soon they wouldn't have a clan.

Flowingpaw's minty gaze scratched the surface of a dumpster, a shiny can of something catching her attention. It was half-buried but she stuck her paw in bravely to retrieve it, a half-eaten can of spaghetti-o's. She dropped it to the ground and sniffed it- still good. She acted like it was no big deal and leaned down to lap at the tomato sauce. "Would you do it again, if you had to?" she said, a new thought prickling at the edges of her mind. Flowingpaw had watched the comings and goings of EclipseClan and had yet to catch sight of any tom she thought would even remotely resemble hers and Blazingpaw's father. With this new story and the wistful, far-off look in Hollowstar's timeless, deep-set gaze, could their father be one of the fighting cats Hollowstar had seen in nostalgia? She didn't believe her mother had one hundred percent left. Flowingpaw would pretend not to care, but the question gnawed at her belly right now and at the forefront of every time she saw one of the apprentices walk back to camp with a spring in their step.

Hollowstar tilted her head at Flowingpaw's question."If I had to. But I don't see that happening now," she gave a slight chuckle, knowing she would have to either retire soon or work herself to death at this point."Why do you ask?"
/\/\/\ Blazingpaw sniffed at the spaghetti-o's his sister had found and decided against it, it was too mushy to make a proper meal. He hopped onto the dumpster, balancing precariously on the rim, glancing down into the pit of large black bags and a few loose cans. He reacted down and scooped up a styrofoam box before hopping back down and clawed the top off, finding a half eaten taco inside.
