Plot Planning

Posted by Ember on September 29, 2017 at 10:40 PM

Hi guys!

Recently there’s been some talk of deviating from our original plan to move EarthClan into DawnClan’s former territory and EclipseClan’s formation as outlined on the Planned Events Section of the History Page, toward a more peaceful route.

Either way, I think the most important thing is that whichever way we want to go, we should start actually heading that direction. The plot has been disappointingly stagnant lately, and we could risk losing all momentum with this plot if we don’t act fast.

Nah, it's fine, I can't fault someone for wanting to get involved with the plot. To help along the main plot as well as your side-plot with Stonestory, maybe you could have him change tactics and support Mossystar's attempts at peace and uniting against the cougar, as well as taking a leadership role in more day-to-day patrols going against the cougar?

He's mad at MossyStar, he's not going to change that. I could see him setting up his own personal manhunt against the cougar to prove he is stronger than the actual clan authority, though?

Sure, that could work. The cougar attacks can start whenever, so the sooner the better to get the ball rolling. If you want it to be an organized manhunt, though, it's probably best to wait a bit while we establish that there actually is a cougar haunting the clans. Perhaps you can have Stonestory get one of the first good looks at it, if you're going to be online much later this week?

In related news, I just updated the Calendar and Planned Events Page :)

Has Earthclan discovered the cougar yet? If not, I have an idea of how they could, but I need to know if they already have or not.

Not that I'm aware of. As far as I know (though with the forums being down, I can't check) only MoonClan has had cougar sightings or attacks so far.

Ok, well Leopardess, the Nightclan Rebel being held prisoner by Earthclan, isn't guarded very well. She's tried to escape, and nearly done it too, but some cat is always coincidentally bringing her food. (Keep in mind that doesn't ever happen if she's not trying to escape...) Anyways, I was planning on killing her off in the next major battle, but I've got a better idea. What if she finally does escape, but gets attacked by the cougar and killed before she reaches the border? When Earthclan finds out they get really mad and try to blame one another for not guarding her better, and eventually send out a party to see if they can catch her before she reaches the border. The party stumbles across her body, and find the huge paw prints all around her. If you want, the cougar can even be nearby to attack the search party.

Okay, so I know we've got the cougar thing going right now, and an attempt at clan unity, but I just thought of an idea yesterday that maybe we could use at some point:

I'm not sure what Moonstone is made of, so this may not work out, but have humans come into the cave and maybe start mining it, or just have some drunken people vandalize it, thus putting the clans in distress because now leaders can't get their nine lives, and medicine cats cannot be promoted. It could probably be resolved by either finding a new place to go, or have one of the cats (probably a new leader or medicine cat) decide to try to communicate with StarClan anyway and find out that the stone still works.

Spirit, that sounds like a great idea! I'd been hoping for a way to resolve the prisoner situation.

King, hm... I'll go ahead and put that down on my possible plot file, but I'm not really seeing how we could pull it in to the current plot without derailing what we've got going.

So, I got an idea about defeating the cougar. So it's a mom, right? Well, if the clans don't know that yet, I think I'm gonna have Sorrelflower, my cat, come up with the idea. She tells her daughter, Kestrelpaw, who convinces her and a few others in Moonclan to go check. They find it's true, and tell Mossystar. Sorrelflower comes up with the plan to distract the cougar with a full attack, and take the cougar cubs far away from the territories so the cougar will leave. How does that sound? My cats don't have to be the ones to come up with the idea if it sounds like I'm trying to sneak into the main plot. I do think that sort of mission would be good for Sorrelflower's character, but if you want an important cat to come up with it, I'm fine with that.

Cougars have such large ranges, I'm not sure how well that would work. It seems like the cougar would catch up with the cats transporting the kits before they got far enough away. As well, she could just move the cougar kits back. That plan also doesn't really require all the clans to work together- just a small patrol could grab the kits and run. Thanks for sharing your idea, though!

@Ember, of course! I figured it was a little off the plot anyway and would need to wait if it got used at all :)

Oh! I have an idea of another way that an argument can be started at the gathering! What if when Foxstar is making the announcement, he mentions that Leopardess, the prisoner, was killed by the cougar? That sure would create an uproar from the rebels.

It could, but wouldn't that just cause the rebels to want to get involved in killing the cougar?

Yea, that's true... but some of them would probably still try and find a way to blame Earthclan. But I think you're right. That would be a good insensitive to get them to agree to work with the other clans to get rid of the cougar.

Hey guys, we should start figuring out what to do about the DawnClan rebels. They aren't planned to become a clan and loners aren't allowed as long-term characters, so they're going to have to either join an existing clan or leave the clans entirely. Do you guys agree that it's fair to put a deadline for moving those characters to different clans on December 1st, after which all of them will be assumed to have left the clans?

Here are the cats attending the first cougar patrol from each clan.

MoonClan: Mossystar, Stonestory, Crimsonsky, and Ghostwolf
EarthClan: Foxstar, Mercilesswinds, and Firestorm
SunClan: TBA
NightClan Rebels: Eclipse, Hollowbreeze, Grackleflight, and Queencobra

For how few cats are attending these patrols, it will be best if they either don't find the cougar, or their attack fails. The clans can regroup in a few days in their entirety (or at least in great enough numbers that every player has a character participating) and then chase off the cougar for real.

Hey I have an idea for how the clans can fail at finding the cougar the first time. What if a snowstorm hits as they are searching?

That could happen, or they could just fail to find it or successfully find it and fail at chasing it away.

I think failing at chasing the cougar away would be a more realistic idea. I like the idea of a snowstorm but it is new leaf now, it still could snow but it's not as likely too now as it would have been last month. I think if a storm of some sort were to get in the way a hailstorm might be a better idea.

Pfft, I used to live where this site is set and my birthday- April 24th- was often snowy. If y'all wanted to have a snowstorm I'd give it the clear on realism, but having the cougar attack seems like the more exciting and less complicated option.
