Plot Planning

Posted by Ember on March 4, 2017 at 1:40 AM

Hi everyone! If you haven’t yet, please read over the last few pages of the last Plot Planning Page or check on the Planned Events section of the History Page to catch up on what we already have planned.

Before we get too much further into the planned plot, I want to make sure we’re all on the same page about what the next few weeks or months will look like, particularly in regards to the NightClan-DawnClan merger.

To set a few ground rules: the merge won’t be permanent, the pages won’t be merged, and there won’t be only one member in charge of the entire merged clan.

We could, however, shake up how the leadership is organized. What would the power balance be like between the two? Would the leaders have equal say, or would one dominate? How would the deputies act? Medicine cats? Who would be in these positions? I don’t think it would work well for half the positions to be cut, partially out of fairness to members in those positions and partially because it would put so much stress on the singular, say, deputy or medicine cat, not to mention it could require a page merge that would later be an absolute nightmare to untangle. That said, we could have the two leaders with a council of cats who have different functions (deputies would be in charge of organizing the day to day activities of the clan, medicine cats would maintain most of their duties, then we could add on elders in keeping an eye over the camp and providing advice). A plan like that would allow members without an official chosen position to have some influence on the clan from their elders or medicine cats, which would allow the most active and interesting characters to rise to the top of future chosen leadership positions.

As well, I’m curious as to what we’re going to do with Creekstar and Tiger’s arranged mateship. If Tiger took a prominent place in NightClan’s council- or whatever we decide on- it could work , but if it is an actually arranged mateship it would make more sense if Creeksplash became mates with Ricochet.

Also, what should the alliance be called?

All thoughts are welcome :)

I was going to suggest she see him, become attracted to him, go with the dream idea and have her dream about him. Then she could make up some excuse, that it was a prophecy. But I think that Tiger would have to also be attracted to Creeksplash for it to work. If that makes sense?

I think we should decide whether she decides to become mates with Tiger first, or whether to merge the clans first.
If she decides to merge the clans first, then becoming mates with a NightClanner could be a fairly obvious course of action for showing her complete commitment to her new merged clan.

Creeksplash and Tiger are polar opposites. That's why it'd be fun, but they would hate each other, at least for a while. But Creeksplash wouldn't make up an excuse to be with him, she wouldn't even think of it.

I'm fine with whichever. Or, when she goes to NightClan to suggest it, she also adds, 'I'm willing to become mates with one of your cats to seal the alliance.'

It's not that Tiger will hate Creeksplash, he will at first be real distant and cold due to his belief that you can only trust yourself and those who've proved themselves. He's not what you would call a good guy but at the same time, he's not a bad guy. His one rule is don't tick him off. But I've got a little something lined up for him. I'm going to make a real slimeball of a dawn clan cat, take every single " player" cat we've ever had and multiply it by Robin Thicke. Yeah that's gonna be my new cat and he's going to make the really stupid mistake of putting the moves on Creeksplash. He won't be around for long, just long enough for Tiger to deliver a prison beating

I think we should avoid the prophecy idea unless we want to make StarClan a major role of their merger, which I don't think makes the most sense considering how much trouble DawnClan got in with Dawnswallow and NightClan's general contempt for StarClan. If Creeksplash suggests they should merge clans because she had a StarClan sent dream about becoming mates with a NightClanner no one's paid much attention to before, they'll probably just question why she's leader, not go along with the plan.

I agree with Ember on that point. I think it would make the most sense to have the clans merge first, and then Creeksplash and Tiger to become mates sometime into the merger. I imagine there will be a fairly large battle at the Gathering after Lightningstar is murdered and if NightClan and DawnClan think MC and SC are allying up, they'd have perfect reason to combine their forces. The murder of a leader can push clans to do things rather drastic.

Well, how about Creeksplash keeps the ( fake? ) dream to herself? It would seem strange for her to be so insistent on allying with NightClan, but I imigine Ricochet would grudgingly agree. Then, Creeksplash later decides to ask Ricochet about becoming mates with a NightClanner, to bond them further. Ricochet suggests Tiger, because let's say Ricochet and Tiger grew close between now and the time Creeksplash asks them to ally and Creeksplash is surprised as to how easy at was, but agrees. This would further put in her head that it was her destiny from StarClan to be with Tiger and strengthen her tie to NightClan, even if nobody else knows about it.

Sure, that works.

What's in it for NightClan, though? I've been approaching this from the thought that they've always had their eyes on the forest and have taken over sections of it fairly regularly and are desperate for more members, but I want to make sure we're all on the same page.

Well, they would share DawnClan territory, so that includes prey that is fresh and usually not bad to eat, and a source of water that wouldn't be tainted by human activity. Plus, Creeksplash can promise to help them if they ever feel like gaining more territory if their numbers get too high, which they would if they were one Clan. And, as one Clan, with both numbers and forces combined, they would virtually rule over the other two Clans, and have them at their mercy.

I like the idea of NightClan trying to push their control into the forest, especially in light of the turmoil they have and are facing in the city in terms of human interventions and gang attacks.

When Lightningstar is assassinated, Creeksplash is going to be super paranoid. She'll likely have trusted guards by her side at all times. She'll be super wary of outsiders, and cats from anywhere except DawnClan and NightClan.

Oh, that will be cool. Perhaps this paranoia can also help to convince her that they need the combined force of both clans in one place to keep everyone safe?

The paranoia could make things more interesting. Maybe the guards could be at odds with the counsel who help the leaders make decisions? I'd like to maximize the number of important characters from different members, to give the new members a chance at having a character with responsibilities.

That's likely, Alienfish. And Ember, that's an interesting idea. But we don't need an overthrown DawnClan leader. From what I read on the Plot Planning page, we've had plenty of those.

I don't think it should end with an overthrown leader, just with a little bit of tension to provide more opportunities for personal plots.

Is that sarcasm? xD I can't decide, tone over the internet is weird.
Either way, we can see how it turns out.

As part of the merge, could we consider apprentices being assigned mentors from the opposite clan?

Sorry, I wanted to leave a bit of space for members to have some say in which of their cats were going, since I knew Ripple might plan to change things any way.
