Plot Planning

Posted by Ember on January 23, 2017 at 12:00 AM

Hello everyone!

If you haven’t yet, please read over the planned events section of the history page. I haven’t gotten the chance to update it since last week, so there are references to Lightningstar disappearing and Floodheart taking her place, but other than that the information still stands.

The plot seems sufficiently planned out for now, but I worry that the SunClan arc could be made stronger. There’s been very limited tension between Icestar and Jaguargaze supporters, so we could possibly drop that thread and try something else in SunClan. MoonClan has also been quiet recently and while that may pick up when they are attacked by NightClan and DawnClan, I’d love to hear any suggestions for plots there.

As an aside for everyone with cats traveling between DawnClan and NightClan, please do not record these movements on the Character Updates page. Since all of the characters will still be considered members of their original clans and are only temporarily staying with the other clan, there’s no need for them to be moved on the pages.

If the fox attack were to happen it would definitely push the clan to work together as a team and, like Alienfish said, it would drive the clan towards Jaguarstar's ideals. Along with the fox attack maybe they can have issues with two legs fox traps/animal traps. I just had Anubis (I regret it so much) get killed by foxes and Morningserval was gravely injured by a fox trap (and foxes).

Perhaps another SunClan hardship could include increased in-climate weather that causes sickness to spread. They would have to isolate the sick for the good of the clan. The illness (whatever it may be) would have to only infect a few cats and not half the clan since that would get a little out of control.

How about the fox attack and the blizzard Alienfish suggested? The blizzard could lead to the sickness, and there we go.

I agree, having them hit by a whole bunch of problems at once would push them forward. To make things worse, we can have them commit to MoonClan before we have the series of disasters start. If things start to go wrong, they'll be more likely to side with the relative safety of staying neutral or joining DC/NC, but if they believe that they're only going to grow stronger they're more likely to agree to a pact with MoonClan-- which will, of course, only put them in a worse position when things turn sour.

Yeah. Once SunClan agrees, Ember, can I have your approval to start the fox attack?

Sure thing :)

The gathering will be this coming weekend, so as soon as they get back from that you can go ahead?or you could possibly have the attack while the rest of the clan is at the gathering and few warriors are left to defend the camp? It's a bit dramatic, but we haven't had something like that happen before.

Adding to Mocking's sickness idea, I could have Sandfoot fall ill and possibly die, pushing the Clan to work harder to cure the illness and care for each other since she's Head Warrior?

Sure, I could have Aloetooth and Agaveroot die from the sickness as well. They're some of the more senior warriors, so if they died around the same time as Sandfoot there could be an even bigger stir.

I could possibly sacrifice Stonepaw, Tungstenwolf and Morningserval (This poor character and facing death) to sickness and foxes

Awwww... Poor Morningserval :'(

I have a cat I can offer up to be killed in the attack. And maybe Jaguarstar can lose a life or two to the illness.

I'll have Cryofreeze die in the fox attack.

Okay, so, so far we have SunClan joining MoonClan, being attacked by foxes, having a very cold new-leaf so they have little prey and are susceptible to sickness, and to wrap that all up possibly a blizzard. That sounds good to start with, though I think we should still keep it fairly in the air and not force any of those events to happen if we do end up having enough to do without them.

This is a summarized version of something that Alienfish and I have been tossing back and forth and we wanted to let everyone else put in their thoughts on this addition to the idea for the illness pplotthat was suggested. (This was written up by Alienfish, other than a tiny bit I added. I just posted it up.)

The sickness strikes. Coalnose and several of Jaguarstar's kits die. Jaguarstar survives as Sharkfang keeps him alive. Enraged by the deaths of several cats in the clan, including Coalnose and many of his own kits' deaths, Jaguarstar reprimands Sharkfang for failing to care for the clan as a whole. Sharkfang argues that she was seeking to ensure the stability of the clan's leadership, but is forced out of her position, leaving SunClan without an official medicine cat.

I?m not sure how we could pull that off. Scarletstar just stepped down and if Alienfish takes the deputy position as planned, Sharkfang won?t be in the medicine cat position anymore.
Perhaps we could have her as a permanent queen in a story-telling and teaching role? In that case, she could be caring for him when Jaguarstar is sick and maybe one of the kits she was supposed to be looking over could wander out of the camp or get hurt?

Is there any other way to have her out of the position sooner? Jaguarstar could probably find several reasons to demote her. Or it could even come to her doing something drastic to be banished from the clan (only if that is what Alienfish wants for her). But if she is the only med cat Jaguar wouldn't want to demote, or banish her for something petty. He would believe it would hurt the whole clan by doing that. It would have to be something very serious that would put the whole clan in jeopardy and that it would be safer without Sharkfang. However, he would be searching for others who would want to be medicine cats (he might be a bit pushy about it if he would find someone, wanting them to assume the position right away). He would not want his clan to be totally helpless if something should arise.

I was expecting this to be done by the end of the month, and for Scarletstar to retire by the end of the month, which would aallow the two to coincide. I could have Sharkfang simply die, leaving SunClan without a medicine cat just as the sickness strikes. That would be fast and effective. Unless someone has a better idea which could be enacted quickly?

Maybe the illness can strike before the end of the month and have it come fast and furious, killing some cats, probably the very young and elderly, and leaving many others extremely weak? Coalnose can probably miscarry this litter as she gets very sick, but doesn't die from the illness. Jaguarstar can also contract the illness and lose a couple lives, even with the excessive attention from Sharkfang, who, as Alienfish suggested, would say she was doing it ti ensure stability in leadership of the clan.

That could send Jaguarstar into some sort of rage, not violent, just furious, and he could turn her out of her position amd possibly banish her from the clan for her chosing to help him, a cat with nine lives, over cats that did not have as such. He would be especially furious over the loss of the unborn kits. Not only because they were his, but because the clan needed them to ensure that the clan has warriors to help support the clan in the future. If that makes sense, and may work? If it all happens before the end of the month?

I know it would have to happen suddenly and strike hard, for it to work, but maybe it could have potential? The illness doesn't have to fade after the month is over.

I like the idea of Sharkfang dying right before the illness strikes because it would put SunClan in the uncomfortable position of asking for help from clans who likely have no interest in lending it to them (given SunClan's lax approach to assisting other clans in their time of need). Assuming both DawnClan and NightClan would refuse to help (NightClan because it lacks any medicine cat and DawnClan because they cannot afford to send their medicine cats away due to their weakened state) SunClan would then go to MoonClan and this could lead to an allying of the two clans.

So, I'm willing to let Lightningstar get murdered at the next Gathering if anyone's interested in helping me devise a plan for why that would happen and what might come about after it.

It could be interesting if a SunClanner killed her, as it would eliminate the possibility of them simply stepping out of the conflict when things begin to go poorly for them. Who exactly would kill her, though, and why, I'm not sure of.

As well, MoonClan needs to go make that alliance with SunClan if they haven't yet.

If Sharkfang is demoted and not killed, she could, at the next gathering, find herself disgruntled and upset enough that she'd kill Lightningstar to make a point about the power of medicine cats, and the protection which StarClan can grant them in times of need. Assuming she'd get to make an arrogant, pompous speech in conjunction with this, of course!
