Plot Planning

Posted by Ember on December 15, 2016 at 12:10 AM

Hello everyone! If you haven’t already, please read over the Planned Events section at the top of the History Page.

The most contentious issue in the planned plot is whether or not to have a substantial portion of NightClan’s population neutered and, if we decide to go with that plot, how they should respond. Henry and I have been going back and forth on this on the last plot blog entry, so if you haven’t yet it’s a good idea to read over the last few pages of it so you know where the current discussion stands and can offer your thoughts on what would be the most interesting and realistic direction for the plot to head.

As well, how do you feel about the rest of the plot?

Over the past few days I’ve noticed that there hasn’t been much tension in SunClan surrounding Jaguargaze and Icestar and while I suspect that’s more a result of how busy this time of year is, I’d like to hear your thoughts on the SunClan schism. Will your characters actually be split between the two, or would you feel like you’re forcing conflict where there is none?

That still doesn't excuse how quick the whole ordeal would last before falling out, I don't find the idea of a she-cat who just so happens to be alone, near/on border, can't fight well, in a territorial expanse which is minutely large. It's nothing more than a venture at that point with no fruitful goals and lacking in participants, not that I wish it to be so.

Maybe, instead of kidnapping cats from other clans, NightClan could bring in gang members and/or kittypets. The clans might start to get suspicious at the large number of non-clan cats that NightClan would be bringing in, and question Scarletstar? I don't know, I just wanted to add an idea.

I can understand it, they would want to find she-cats with the best genes they can find, it would be hard to do that in kitty-pets or loners. and i believe it would make more sense if they attacked in groups.

Gang she-cats would take the story off the path of angering the other clans, it just seems like doing that would only annoy and anger gang cats and not really move the plot forward...

At the moment we're just generally bogged down with over planning and under delivering. Instead of debating each step and the result of it in depth I suggest we just take it one step at a time. For example, just start with NightClan getting forced from their camp after the spaying/ neutering and take it from there. Lately we've been creating a lot of manufactured conflict to progress the plot and it paints us into a corner. I'm all for letting things develop more naturally and giving the power to individual characters who decide to take iniative and then sink or swim on their own merit.

You?re right, we?ve been getting pretty far off-track planning things that won?t happen for a few months even if the plot really picks up.
Though, I still think there?s worth in having some plot planned ahead, even if we don?t actually end up heading that direction. I don?t want to end up in another flood situation where we expect that roleplayers will step forward and make things happen, and then nothing does.
So, step one: solidifying the SC/MC and DC/NC alliances?

I have no more ideas, so I can't argue with anything else.

Perhaps we could use the medicine cat meeting to strengthen those alliances? We'd have to see how the cats interact, though I know that Sharkfang already holds MoonClan in a slightly higher regard due to their long history of good StarClan connections and long-standing traditions.

Sure, that works. The medicine cat meeting is scheduled for Friday, but if you guys want to start it earlier so it doesn't go into Christmas we can.

So, I was thinking it over a bit more and I can see a path to Lightningstar agreeing with sending some DawnClan cats into NightClan to repopulate.

Since NC doesn't have a reason to ally with DC at the moment, I think it would be best if Lightningstar didn't seek out their help until after the mass spraying/ neutering. It would be a bit of a coincidence but she could head into NightClan only a few days or a week after the event and they could work it out from there:

Her terms, which would be negotiable, would be this: DawnClan sends willing she-cats to NightClan's camp to peocreate and in return NightClan serves as the protector of DawnClan. They help DawnClan get their territory back from MoonClan, and then some of the strongest warriors from NC are sent to DC to teach DC warriors better fighting techniques. The NC warriors serve as mentors and as assurance that the DawnClan cats will be returned and treated well while in NC.

This relationship opens the door for greater conflict. Perhaps there are some issues with the treatment of queens, arguments over where the kittens will be raised, and just general cross clan tension.

I know Scarletstar would almost instantly join forces with DawnClan even before the neutering thing as her initial thoughts would be something like "if we ally with DawnClan, then when they're back in shape they will have to repay us" etc

Yay, my idea won't have to be completely thrown out :) Yeah, that's a good idea Lightning.

Sure, that could work. If we go that direction, the camp raid would have to be sooner than I assumed we would have it. How many of you can volunteer cats?
I'm volunteering Crowpoison, Vidar, and Dogface.

. My cat in Moonclan (Ravenkit) could become one of the few pregnant she cats with a dawn clanner on kidnap until pregnant ( later on would be released)

Do you mean pregnant by one of the NightClanners? DawnClan would not be involved in the kidnappings direction.
As well, we seem to have dropped the possibility of NightClanners kidnapping MoonClanners and SunClanners in favor of voluntary mating with DawnClan queens.

that was what I meant but I could create a female loner who wanders into Nightclan by accident after the incident and she could join nightclan

A bit curious, can you tell me how to create a non- clan born cat like that?

@Ember I could create NightClan cats for that purpose if needed.

I volunteer Goldenflames to be kidnapped.

So when the kidnapped cats return, how are they going to describe what happened? That a twoleg just cut them open and did something? How will they find out they won't be able to procreate?

I really don't have cats that I would want to offer up for that. Maybe Wickedpaw. But I am still iffy on offering him, officially.

They may not know for certain what happened, but wouldn't they be able to tell that something was wrong with them? And if there would be other cats, possibly kittypets, that they might run into, perhaps those cats would be able to say what happened? So that the clan cats would know what to tell the others, once they returned to the clan that is? There would likely be a change in their scents, as well as a possible change in temperament after their being fixed? Their ears being clipped would also give away something happened.

Weren't there others in NightClan who had been captured, spayed/neutered, tipped and released? Perhaps those cats might be able to give insight to the others what happened to them? If the cats who were captured couldn't identify it right away?

This is all me brainstorming to try and give ideas. So none of this has to be taken seriously. But if something helps, then there are some brownie points earned lol xD
