Plot Planning

Hello everyone! The Planned Events section of The History Page is looking pretty pitiful and conversation wasn’t flowing on the last blog entry. As a quick refresher, all of the clans attended a gathering last week. Lightningstar asked DawnClan to give their former territory back, but so far nothing has come of it. While NightClan and DawnClan should be moving toward an alliance, Scarletstar seemed reluctant to help them.

The biggest problem I’m seeing right now is that the clans don’t have much reason to ally with each other. MoonClan and DawnClan have obvious reasons to be at odds, but NightClan and SunClan would be safer staying out of it. SunClan has no reason to get involved so far and if they do, the safer option would be to place their bet with NightClan and DawnClan where they won’t be in much danger of defeat. So we need to find a way to scare them into allying themselves with MoonClan. As well, do you want to keep them going in the current strict direction? As I mentioned above, Scarletstar doesn’t seem very interested in helping out DawnClan and frankly, I don’t know why she should be. How would you like to push DawnClan and NightClan together?

Berrysong, the planned events section at the top of the History Page was updated just last week and all of it holds up except for what Henry and I have been discussing for the past page.

Henry, I agree that we?d have to push the bounds of realism a bit, but plenty of cats seem to have gone out alone in the past during wars and I think it?s far to assume an unlucky she-cat or two could do the same and end up at the wrong place and the wrong time. Taking prisoners from their enemy clans actually makes more sense to me if they are at war, since they are both weakening their enemies while strengthening their own ranks with new kits.
I could have my character Dogface do the (or one of the) kidnappings of a MoonClan queen, he certainly doesn?t have any eye for clan politics and wouldn?t think ahead to the fact that MoonClan and SunClan would only be further encouraged to fight NightClan.
If we go with that and Dogface is acting outside of Scarletstar?s orders- who could even have explicitly said not to kidnap she-cats from within the clans- when he gets back to the clan with the raped shecat, Scarletstar might assume it?s better to keep the she-cat hidden away until she has the kits, then kill the she-cat rather than returning her to MoonClan and hoping that MoonClan will just accept that Dogface was acting out of line and his actions shouldn?t be held against NightClan as a whole. Especially if the she-cat was coaxed over the border and had a history with fighting with her clanmates (do any of y?all have a character that fits that bill and you would like to volunteer for this position?) MoonClan might assume she simply left and not look into it further.
Hm, I agree that it would certainly cause trouble between their possibly already shaky alliance, but if they?re still struggling at that point to feed themselves, wouldn?t they possibly want to stay with NightClan just to make sure that they won?t starve when leaf-bare rolls around again? As well, if we were going with the cozy relationship between NightClan and DawnClan that we originally planned (which I?m not sure we?re still going for??) they?d at least be starting on better ground and might have more reason to honor their alliance past where it is strictly necessary for their own sake.

Ember, of those times wouldn't they possibly be on a more alert stance than during peace time? And that wouldn't justify she-cats going to the border very closely and lonesome just because they felt like it, something like that doesn't make any sense. As I stated earlier if any kidnappings were to take place it would have to happen further in the territory which will make founding out much easier. Originally it was discussed that the kidnappings were taking place because of problems regarding population not as an affect of war. If Nightclan started doing this to "Strengthen" ranks then every clan would start doing it. In the past this type of exchange never happened because it isn't as profitable as you think it to be. The pregnant she-cat could easily kill themselves or the kits as they were born, they wouldn't feel an obligation to keep them alive to be used as weapons against their home clan.

Why would Dawnclan need to worry about something so minuscule in Leaf-bare? Once the snow falls the clans are more focused on staying warm and getting by with what they got, it isn't a time for war especially for four groups of cats with only primitive constructions and trees unless you are Sunclan. If they take what's theirs before then than they don't require a strong alliance with Nightclan anymore and honoring an alliance with them wouldn't hold if they commit atrocities like you have been saying.

Another thing I'd like to bring up is that once Moonclan found out a Nightclan cat had kidnapped one of their queens and used her to push out more kits wouldn't they demand compensation off the bat? This is also going back to Moonclan retaliating by kidnapping Nightclanners, which is viable if Nightclan doesn't compensate. Scarletstar is in charge of Nightclan and it is her responsibility that such scenarios don't happen, she's still accountable for what her Warriors do.
