Plot Planning

Posted by Ember on November 12, 2016 at 9:35 PM

Hello everyone! The Planned Events section of The History Page is looking pretty pitiful and conversation wasn’t flowing on the last blog entry. As a quick refresher, all of the clans attended a gathering last week. Lightningstar asked DawnClan to give their former territory back, but so far nothing has come of it. While NightClan and DawnClan should be moving toward an alliance, Scarletstar seemed reluctant to help them.

The biggest problem I’m seeing right now is that the clans don’t have much reason to ally with each other. MoonClan and DawnClan have obvious reasons to be at odds, but NightClan and SunClan would be safer staying out of it. SunClan has no reason to get involved so far and if they do, the safer option would be to place their bet with NightClan and DawnClan where they won’t be in much danger of defeat. So we need to find a way to scare them into allying themselves with MoonClan. As well, do you want to keep them going in the current strict direction? As I mentioned above, Scarletstar doesn’t seem very interested in helping out DawnClan and frankly, I don’t know why she should be. How would you like to push DawnClan and NightClan together?

I think she might start pressuring some of the still fertile cats to breed more. She wouldn't be forcing them to, just looking down on the cats who don't breed.

Hm, that doesn't offer much opportunity to stir up trouble.

Maybe we could use the scattering to move a bunch of cats against Starletstar? I know you've been concerned about inactivity and she's been in the position a while, so having her ousted could be an interesting way to go.

If they lose respect for her or possibly run her out of the leader position, their new leader can be much harsher and condone the kidnappings.

Ricochet, from what i've seen doesnt seem like the type to do that. But the running scarlet ot of the leader position sounds ok.

Take in mind that Nightclan is not inclined to great amounts of barbaracy just because they live in the city. To say they'd go out and start raping she-cats would be a fundamental evil by the other clans eyes and the natural reaction would be a coalition against them, tighter borders, larger patrols with fewer she-cats to avoid such a circumstance. In the past if one cat was kidnapped it was worrying, but as once two or three Warriors went missing randomly it didn't sit well. In summary Nightclan, although not all, could do it but it would be short lived, in terms of realism.

On a completely unrelated side-note, I find the nine-lives system for leaders extremely inconvenient at times, especially in the case of Darkstar. On one hand, this site seems to want to look for more exciting, high-stakes plots, which are stifled by the invulnerability of the leaders and their countless lives. On the other hand, if the leader slowly loses their lives, they seem weak and unfit to lead, as few other cats die so easily, and none so often. Any way, just a personal observation, and probably not something that could be done away with.

With the way the system is most Leaders won't fully lose all nine lives, and I'm a lot of cases it may be hard for a person rping a character they really love who's also a leader die in very avoidable and dumb ways.

Henry, I don?t think it would be pure barbarism, at the end of the day what they?re doing does have reason, even if it is evil. One of the primary traits as a clan is their willingness to do morally fraught things when it aids them, so I don?t think this is entirely unrealistic even if it?s stretching what they?d do a bit.
I agree that it would have to be a fairly short-lived plot, but if they kidnapped she-cats from different clans and the clans didn?t communicate that they were all missing she-cats, the clans might not connect the dots for a while.

Alien, yeah, I?ve never liked that aspect of the original books once. I don?t think it works very well for this roleplay, but at the same time it doesn?t seem to get in the way enough for me to do away with that aspect of the Warriors world.

If they don't steal she-cats from the other clans, Nightclan could probably lure in loners and kittypets, and then take the kits when they are weaned. Or maybe they can do both? I might have a cat or two (Either a previous cat I had leave the clans or one I currently have) to offer up if NightClan toms are taking she-cats or taking loner/kittypet mates to help repopulate NightClan. If we do choose to go this route with the plot.

Hm, maybe that could be where NightClan starts because they know the gangs won't be able to retaliate properly or won't care enough to, then some members decide to start picking she-cats off of the other clans?

Perhaps we could at least consider cutting the number of lives? Perhaps all the way down to three?

If we needed an in-character explanation, then a punishment from StarClan for the evilness of the clans probably wouldn't be too unreasonable.

I think Silverwinds suggestion is a better bet, kidnapping loners and kittypets would require less effort. However some cats going out for clan cats wouldn't make much sense because of this. If it's truly for regaining population then they wouldn't want to risk war which could lead to a further decrease in manpower.

@Ember Considering that the only basis of the cats way of life and civilization is the clans and that no other clan has ordered its Warriors to deliberately target and kidnap female clan cats from the other clans it would be barbarism. Even if it is for a reason which might aid them as you say and even if they have done questionable things in the past that doesn't diffuse it as such because it'd be a first on such a scale to be even a minor plot. And I do believe connecting the dots would be very simple for a clan singularly without outside help simply because female Warriors can fend for themselves more often then not and won't be willingly open to being forcefully taken to Nightclan for producing kits against their will. Nightclan Warriors would have to also go into the territory to catch a lone she-cat whom is hunting or just strolling around since it wouldn't make sense to hunt right on the border and attacking a border patrol to kidnap would reveal their intentions. Nor do I feel that they'd get lucky enough to encounter a she-cat by herself near the border idling. Sunclan is especially befitting to this because they hunt in groups most of the time and that would make it near impossible without confrontation which would expose the whole thing once again. Nightclan scent would get left behind on the territories and so would blood from the struggles that would occur so naturally it isn't realistic, at all.

But as Silverwind mentioned previously Nightclan could go for loners and kittypets in the city as it is less dangerous for Nightclanners and much more viable since the resistance would be mediocre at best. However I would also like to point out that word would eventually spread and a large migration away from Nightclan borders would take place in the city making more and more difficult to proceed.

While I agree that SunClanners won't be going out much, MoonClanners tend to go out alone more often and therefore might be easier targets-- the point about scents still stands, though, so unless they lured the she-cats over to their side of the thunderpath then kidnapped then, then MoonClan simply thought that the she-cats were leaving the clan of their own free will, they could get away with it.
Or, if we do have just one or two warriors sloppily going after clan she-cats without Scarletstar's approval, we can make that how MoonClan and SunClan figure out what is happening, rather than the MoonClan spy option that I listed on the Plot Planning Page.
I agree that it's a stretch, so maybe we can cut the part about taking clan cats and leave the kittypets? That would give MoonClan and SunClan all the more reason to attack DawnClan and NightClan, once they figure out what is going on.

That would imply that Moonclan and Sunclan both equally agree that the matters of loners and kittypets in the city are important. I'll also have to disagree with you on that they'd attack both Nightclan and Dawnclan since Dawnclan would have done nothing wrong at this point and with their current leadership such an act would be unacceptable to them and any further possibility of an alliance would be even further stretched if they found out.

Henry, I don?t think that it would need to be their primary reason for staying in the war against NightClan and DawnClan, just that it might offer a good opportunity for MC/SC to demonize DC/NC and give just one more reason for SunClan to be nervous about NightClan.
DawnClan would certainly be shaken by the kidnappings, but they are still at danger of starving and at this point will be openly at war with SunClan and MoonClan. They could stay with NightClan out of desperation and when SunClan and MoonClan find out, act as if they didn?t know about the kidnappings. There?s also the option of DawnClan legitimately not finding out. Scarletstar would naturally want to hide what is happening, so the NightClanners could keep the kidnapped cats at a remote part of the territory that DawnClanners are unlikely to stumble upon, even with the open border policy.
At this point DawnClan would have attacked MoonClan with NightClan, and won territory from both MoonClan (we could also have them take the Burnt Woods from SunClan, to push SunClan closer to MoonClan). NightClan would call on DawnClan when they are attacked by MoonClan and SunClan ?who would be only partially motivated by the kidnappings- and DawnClan will continue to support NightClan to keep hold of what they consider to be their best, if not ideal, bet.

Fang, that?s pretty much a given xD we?re actually hoping to make fights break out, to help the plot out of how dull it?s been these past two months.

If a war between the clans broke out then how would the clause of she-cats getting kidnapped whom are Warriors be any more realistic? If Nightclan did so afterword then frequent border patrols and caution near the borders would ruin any chance of opportunity. If they are at war why would Nightclan risk the safety of their Warriors so easily for something they could get from the city instead?

Dawnclan would naturally want its territory back to help with the famine and rightfully so. However whenever territory has been reclaimed in the past it was mostly brushed off since it wasn't originally the aggressor clans land. Dawnclan would defend Nightclan in a MC/DC offense only to gain time for them to remark and patrol the regain territory effectively. They would lose interest at that point because they have what they need, watering down the alliance between them and Nightclan. If that doesn't fully go as I mentioned then their past history and, if they did know about the kidnappings, would be enough to land the nail in the coffin and undermine the alliance.

Could someone summarize what's been discussed (and decided) so far? If we need cat (s) to do certain things for the plot, I'm completely willing to volunteer some of my characters.
