Plot Planning

Posted by Ember on October 8, 2016 at 11:50 PM

Hi everyone!

Since there hasn’t been much interest in the Isolation Plot recently, we’ve moved to discussing how we’re going to bring the clans back together.

To tie together a few different suggestions together, DawnClan is currently sending a patrol to SunClan to tip them off that NightClan has been crossing through their territory. SunClan will begin more heavily patrolling the NightClan border, where we could have some skirmishes. Kingfish will then take a small band of NightClan’s best fighters to SunClan’s camp and kill a few cats, possibly kits and queens. SunClan, having already started considering an alliance with MoonClan, could then go to Sneakstar and ask for support in attacking NightClan. MoonClan, who’ve had their own problems with NightClan recently, will agree to the alliance.

Meanwhile, NightClan doesn’t know that it is DawnClan that originally tipped off SunClan to the invaders and will turn to them for support. DawnClan, who have reason to fear MoonClan and are desperate to regain their lost territory, will accept the alliance with NightClan and possibly attack MoonClan.

If you haven’t already, please look over the previous Plot Planning Blog Entry for all the details of these individual plots, I’ve only presented one way we can string them together and have left out some of the intricacies.

As well, we need to decide what we’re going to do with the spies and whether we’re going to stick with SunClan’s strict culture –which has not been particularly enforced- and DawnClan’s civil war.

This all sounds good! My Nightclan cat, Mistedskies. Is there any way she could get involved? Maybe help Kingfish or send another small band of cats to help Kingfish's? Just a small thought.

I like that idea! It provides a really quick and easy way for the DC/NC alliance to dissolve should we need it to.

I think the spies should definitely be kept - perhaps they should even become a more permanent part of the site? After all, in times of war or peace, it's good to know what's going on in another clan, whether that clan is an enemy or a friend. If we keep the spies in the camps, we'll always have them available later for more plots to develop off of or with.

If we do keep the spies, I think we should start rotating them out more often so more members can be involved and the plot stays fresh. Maybe a new set of spies can be sent out every month or two?

I think two months sounds good. In-character, we could explain it as an effort to minimize suspicions from piling upon a single cat over time, until they are eventually confronted.

*Crosses out "perhaps kits and queens" and writes "definitely"* XD

Sounds awesome, Ember! :3 I'm excited to see how this goes. :D

If we go with that plot, though, to make it realistic we'll need the majority of Kingfish's lackeys killed or seriously injured, as well as Kingfish himself. It's unrealistic for them to storm the camp itself and get out easy, the only thing they have on their side is surprise and luck, even if they plan ahead and go to the camp when the majority of the warriors are out hunting.

I agree with Ember. Given that they even make it all the way to camp without being caught by a patrol, they will be extremely outnumbered and I don't see how they'd manage to kill even a handful of warriors without all getting killed themselves.

I won't offer Kingfish himself, and I think this would also have to be at the discretion of the players if they die or not. Also, as far as the queens and kits thing, I don't think there's enough queens/kits with owners willing to kill them off for it to work, so a patrol massacre would probably work better.

Whats this about kits and queens? I might have a few kits to offer, depending on whats happening to them.

And ae we going with the soy thing where Sharpblades wants to stay and rats out the other spi(es?) to Kingfish? If so, NightClan would be able to get Sharpblades to be a reverse spy kind of, as MoonClan would trust hm completely.

If Kingfish doesn't die, he should be at least badly injured. Perhaps we could actually have SunClan take them as prisoners? It would be an interesting reversal of fortunes.

Well, the point of the attack is to have them team up with MoonClan, and thus force DawnClan to make an alliance with NightClan; if Kingfish is killed or captured, the alliances will take longer to try to formulate. I've already got plans for Kingfish's life- for the most part- so having either of those happens inhibits my abilities to make those plans happen. :/ Like I said, Kingfish attacking a patrol would work better for him to survive and also not be captured.

Okay, we can go with that :)

Sweet! :)

So, when should we try to have this planned for?

Since a border skirmish isn't too serious of a thing, I think we should have a few of them. Kingfish doesn't have to be involved in all of them, but he could be sending out his lackeys to keep him tied to it somehow. The plot's been quiet, so starting sooner is better than later.

but if we're going for a massacre, we can't do it in several parts. I was thinking Kingfish and his group wipes out a whole patrol in a sitting. His commando group is getting reasonably large right now, so they could take on a reasonably large patrol. If it's not a big patrol, they could always make the "crime scene" as horrifying as possible, so SunClan will be more alarmed.

Hm, maybe it could be a rather large SunClan patrol, one that includes several apprentices? I could offer up Littlelion, though he's a warrior.

Does this mean the end of isolation as well? If the clans are pairing up as allies, then that seems like the natural result.
If we want espionage to be a more permanent part of the plot, then we shouldn't have the spies turn traitor yet. It will cause a lot of confusion if we have spies counter-spying for a clan they were originally supposed to be spying on. It will give one clan too much of an advantage, and the lies in intelligence swapping will eventually be too many to keep up with.
A massacre sounds excessive as well. SunClan did nothing to deserve that except have prey stolen and their members kidnapped. They've earned an edge within the plot, and Kingfish's group shouldn't be untouchable either. If a skirmish does happen, both sides should sustain injury despite NightClan winning the battle overall.
Are the border skirmishes purposeful, or just accidental?

They're purposeful.

As for the spy thing, that is a good point. Although, when the time comes, perhaps Sharpblades or one of the other spies could side with King (or Devil who is recruiting people too) and they could get found out, and then Kingfish could reveal it to DawnClan?

And, yeah,Ember, that sounds like a good idea. Depending on how soon this happens, I may create a character for the patrol.
