Isolation Plot Planning II

Posted by Ember on June 5, 2016 at 1:35 AM

Hey guys! In the last two Plot Planning Pages we’ve discussed a lot of good ideas, however we haven’t decided how these ideas will fit together into a one story line:

Two-legs may begin poisoning prey, which the clans mistake for planned attacks by enemy clans.

Blackpine will be killed by Seraphgaze, prompting Lionstar to seek revenge. However, he does not want to be seen openly attacking and orders his warriors to stalk along the border and look for discreet ways to undermine DawnClan’s security. While walking along the border, the NightClan patrol discovers a small fire caused by a cigarettes thrown from a car and help fuel the fire before returning to their territory.

The fire plot is related to potentially polluting the river, but he ash itself wouldn't be the main polluter, as the fire would stay relatively small and not burn down whole trees, mainly lower-growing plants and leaf litter. We can just use it to cause an algal bloom, then the resulting fallout from that. We can exaggerate the following fish kill, which NightClan could use to their advantage, even if it’s a consequence they didn't originally expect. As well, ideas have been thrown about involving NightClan polluting the water in other ways, possibly with two-leg trash or even with the bodies of other dead cats and prey.

Riversoul and Alienfish brought up the possibility of clans bringing in spies, possibly beginning with apprentices in meetings and later escalating to clans sending in cats pretending to be changing clans. As these spies are found, a witch-hunt may begin among the clans as they attempt to root out other potential spies among cats who had recently joined the camp.

Toxic and I have also been tossing back and forth a few ideas of where to carry this plot, focusing on SunClan:

SunClan can become a scapegoat for the apprentices meeting up and the other problems that have been occurring between the clans, a sentiment that will be particularly strong in NightClan. Today, Lightningdance and Leopard-dance took their kits to the Gathering Clearing to show them to their friend, Nightfall. Hel, a SunClanner, caused accidentally caused their three kits to die. A fight broke out, witnessed by Darkstar and a SunClan patrol originally sent to bring back Aloepaw. Lionstar hears of the kits’ death and decides to pin some additional murders on SunClan and may try and convince MoonClan and DawnClan to put SunClan “back in its place”. This acts as a departure from total isolation, however we can approach the alliance as only temporary.

The three clans can attack SunClan, which will force their leadership to crack down on their members to ensure the other clans can’t pin any more trouble on the SunClan. At the most dramatic, this could entail both Darkstar and Zenithrose being killed and a tyrannical cat taking control, or we can take a more moderate approach by having the existing leadership begin to very strictly enforce rules to keep their cats in line. Halo, Command, would you be willing to have your characters removed from their positions or dramatically change their leadership style?

So, we need to decide how to stitch this all into a coherent plot and build a rough time-line for everything. As summer has started and most of our members will be on vacation, I expect a jump in activity over the next few months, so we should be keeping the plot moving fairly quickly to keep everything interesting, but still slowly enough to allow room for side plots.

Lilith was originally a rogue, and she joined not too long ago, so I think she could pass off as a rogue who joined, then decided she didn't liked Aspenstar's rule, maybe?

Sure, that one might work. We can say that she convinced Cricketchaser to accompany her :)

Is there a set conclusion to how this all should end? Personally, I think we should let things play out naturally, and figure out what happens next. For example, I don't want to plan who is going to win this little Dawnclan terf war; I would find it far more interesting if the members themselves played their cats and let the winners be the winners, without a set ending to restrict it. I apologise if an ending has already been planned, but if all four of the clans could flow naturally, I would think that would be more exciting. And it would also help the inactivity; members could just roleplay by ear and go with the flow. I don't know if this idea is just late night disorganization or if it could actually work? I understand the spy stuff is already planned, but is the ending to which side of the clan is victorious Sunclan, Nightclan, and Dawnclan planned?

There isn't a planned ending yet, however in past arcs where things have been left to progress naturally, such as the flood arc, nothing happened. I don't think we should plan out every little detail, but some planning seems to be necessary to keep everything moving along.

Not yet, they should be soon.

For the spy plot, I volunteer Nightmist to spy as she can almost blend in with any clan (except Nightclan). I also would like her to possibly be found out, and killed. If that's what we're going for. Anyway, I volunteer Nightmist.

We already have characters set up for this first wave of spies, but she could fit in well for the next one. Maybe she could be among the first MoonClanners sent to DawnClan?

Alright, so Ember and I were bouncing a few plot ideas back and forth and we came up with a few points that we think will liven up the DawnClan plot and get it moving.

It involves the continuation of the arguments between the nationalists and the traditionalists in the clan (the traditionalist on Echostar's side, the nationalists for replacing her and implementing no immigration rules). So far it seems like keeping with traditional values is strongest in DawnClan (why wouldn't it be? Not much bad has happened yet) so it would be good for them to continue with support for a while. However, when the prey begins to die off in DawnClan, and new members are still being accepted, things will begin to get a little more tense. The prey shortage should put a strain on the members of DawnClan. Some elders and kits could die of starvation, and/or some queens could miscarriage from underfeeding. At this point the traditionalists would still insist on welcoming all to share what little they have, but resentment would be growing towards any outsiders joining the clan since they're a strain on the already diminished food source.

Out of desperation, a few of the traditionalists would start crossing borders and hunting in MoonClan, resulting in an encounter with a MoonClan patrol that could end in a battle, or reparations being made immediately by DawnClan's leadership. MoonClan could take the whole patch of land between the two forks in the river including thhe Abandoned Badger Set, which would finally have DawnClan in contact with all three other clans' territory, and MoonClan's demand of it could be warranted by a prey shortage of their own.

At this point, it would also be beneficial for a spy to have been found out among DawnClan's ranks, leading to even more distrust between DawnClanners and outsiders, and it would also help to have some outsiders overeating or just not pulling their own weight.

In order for this plot to work, we'd need a lot of participation: cats in DawnClan actually arguing over how it should be run, characters feeling the food shortages (not always eating or returning with prey), and outsiders joining DawnClan's ranks.

First Ember and I just wanted to get some volunteers for characters to be the more provocative and outgoing members of each side. If you have any character you would want to be a leading figure in this moral war, please let us know, and we'll try to get everything coordinated with you :)

Did I miss anything, Ember?

Well it's a given that Skeletonfury would play a Key figure in the Nationalist side of things. I have been meaning to roleplay him more anyway.

Dawnclaw would always stay on the Traditionalist side, no matter what.

I could maybe have Faminepaw "hop ship" and go to DawnClan. She would be the perfect cat for eating more than her share and not pulling her own weight. I would just have to know right about when to move her, if that's even needed. (I need to be sure before I do, so I don't have to change her right back to SunClan. Makes things easier. :p )

Plot ideas sound good to me. I was going to make a new cat to try and help the DawnClan plot a bit, but I'm a bit crowded with cats as it is..

@Silverwind Any time that works for you would be great :) The prey shortage should probably start beginning soon so having Faminepaw there would put a bit of stress on the clan.

@Shadecloud You could use one that you already have to help it. What we really need are just characters defending each side.

So we have
Traditionalists: Riverblossom, Dawnclaw, Uffe
Nationalists: Skeletonfury, Lightningstrike, Meadowbreath

For my other characters-
Traditionalists: Winterstorm, Badgersplash, Silverkit (when she?s old enough to speak up about what?s going on)
Nationalists: Floodpaw

Silverkit will probably change sides later on, but for now that doesn?t matter much.

When my apprentices become warriors in DawnClan, one can be a traditionalist (Alphapaw) and the other a nationalist (Kingdompaw).

My cats:
Nationalist: Heronfrost, Brightlegacy
Traditionalist: Eveningrose, Orchidwillow, Maplepath
Undecided: Warmkit
Unbiased and just wants peace: Whiteflower
In Whiteflower's case, if anybody ever needs someone to end disputes and such, she would be happy to help.
And if Maplepath can find a mate, I can have one of her litters die during pregnancy because of a lack of food.
