Isolation Plot Planning II

Posted by Ember on June 5, 2016 at 1:35 AM

Hey guys! In the last two Plot Planning Pages we’ve discussed a lot of good ideas, however we haven’t decided how these ideas will fit together into a one story line:

Two-legs may begin poisoning prey, which the clans mistake for planned attacks by enemy clans.

Blackpine will be killed by Seraphgaze, prompting Lionstar to seek revenge. However, he does not want to be seen openly attacking and orders his warriors to stalk along the border and look for discreet ways to undermine DawnClan’s security. While walking along the border, the NightClan patrol discovers a small fire caused by a cigarettes thrown from a car and help fuel the fire before returning to their territory.

The fire plot is related to potentially polluting the river, but he ash itself wouldn't be the main polluter, as the fire would stay relatively small and not burn down whole trees, mainly lower-growing plants and leaf litter. We can just use it to cause an algal bloom, then the resulting fallout from that. We can exaggerate the following fish kill, which NightClan could use to their advantage, even if it’s a consequence they didn't originally expect. As well, ideas have been thrown about involving NightClan polluting the water in other ways, possibly with two-leg trash or even with the bodies of other dead cats and prey.

Riversoul and Alienfish brought up the possibility of clans bringing in spies, possibly beginning with apprentices in meetings and later escalating to clans sending in cats pretending to be changing clans. As these spies are found, a witch-hunt may begin among the clans as they attempt to root out other potential spies among cats who had recently joined the camp.

Toxic and I have also been tossing back and forth a few ideas of where to carry this plot, focusing on SunClan:

SunClan can become a scapegoat for the apprentices meeting up and the other problems that have been occurring between the clans, a sentiment that will be particularly strong in NightClan. Today, Lightningdance and Leopard-dance took their kits to the Gathering Clearing to show them to their friend, Nightfall. Hel, a SunClanner, caused accidentally caused their three kits to die. A fight broke out, witnessed by Darkstar and a SunClan patrol originally sent to bring back Aloepaw. Lionstar hears of the kits’ death and decides to pin some additional murders on SunClan and may try and convince MoonClan and DawnClan to put SunClan “back in its place”. This acts as a departure from total isolation, however we can approach the alliance as only temporary.

The three clans can attack SunClan, which will force their leadership to crack down on their members to ensure the other clans can’t pin any more trouble on the SunClan. At the most dramatic, this could entail both Darkstar and Zenithrose being killed and a tyrannical cat taking control, or we can take a more moderate approach by having the existing leadership begin to very strictly enforce rules to keep their cats in line. Halo, Command, would you be willing to have your characters removed from their positions or dramatically change their leadership style?

So, we need to decide how to stitch this all into a coherent plot and build a rough time-line for everything. As summer has started and most of our members will be on vacation, I expect a jump in activity over the next few months, so we should be keeping the plot moving fairly quickly to keep everything interesting, but still slowly enough to allow room for side plots.

When would the other clans send out spies? Would one get caught, then the recieveing clan gets suspicious and sends out spies and so forth?

Yep, that's exactly it. First we need the plots to start moving in the other clans, but that seems to be picking up now so it maybe won't be too long...? We don't have any time constraints on this plot yet, so I think we should just progress whenever feels most natural.

I can have Redsoul as one of the spies for DawnClan, when they start spying.

This sounds good.

While it definitely appears that DawnClan and SunClan have plots occurring at the moment, are there going to be any plans for a major NightClan/MoonClan subplot (Aside from the spies they will eventually send out)?

I can have Frozencross as a spy from SunClan to DawnClan when SunClan begins sending out spies.

From SunClan i could send out Justicebreeze when they send out spies. And as i said, Sharp-paw can be sent out from Moonclan.

I don't like the idea of sending more spies out to the clans afterwards, as Aspenstar would know that he can't put more cats in danger. Plus, even if they were confident enough, you have to think about the clans and how they would react if out of the blue, more and more stray cats with weird , familiar scents wandering into your camp, asking to join? What I would prefer is that if one of the cats spying in one of the clans befriends many in that clan. They would have to betray Moonclan and then tell what they were there for and their feelings now. This would be better in my eyes.

i agree with what spicy said. we might not want to send out too many spies.. even though we're the ones controlling the leaders, it would be illogical for a ton of spies to be sent out without the leaders noticing something was up.

Maybe just one or two could be sent out? From each clan?

My assumption was that the spies would claim that Aspenstar had gone crazy and was killing cats or something of the sort, they'd be recognized as MoonClanners so not hiding it would be the less suspicious course of action. The tyrannical Aspenstar story could also prompt the other clans to send spies of their own-- though there shouldn't be more than a small handful of spies in any clan at once.

Ah, that makes more sense. That would actually probably work pretty well.

Sending one spy to each clan might lower suspicions and conserve resources, though it would provide minimal safety for the spy as they would not have anyone to help them or to at least send for help if they were found out. Sending two spies from each clan to each clan also has the benefit of increasing the believably of a "fleeing tyranny" story, as it would make sense for multiple cats to be experiencing and reacting to this tyranny in the same way rather than just a single one. Which option are we opting for?

Alien makes a good point. I'd say two or three from each clan would probably work out the best.

Two or three would be best, I think, just in case a member has to leave suddenly or becomes inactive.

Um, I just made two cats in MoonClan, can I offer them both? (If it's too many I can just offer Ivyfrost instead of both of them)

I can send out Brightpaw from Nightclan or Fawnshade from Sunclan.

Sharpaw and Ivyfrost sound like they'd be a good pair to start us off with :)

Sounds good. What will happen after the spies finish/how will they finish?

With all the new plot developments and planned plot developments lately, could we maybe have some sort of current/planned events section somewhere on the pages, talking about what's happoning, major events that are planned or have recently taken place, and just the general dircetion we want to be steering the clans towards in terms of mood, tension levels, and feelings about the other clans?

There still seems to be some confusion over what the new rules in NightClan will be, so I figured writing a new warrior code would help. How does this sound to y'all?
1. NightClanners are fierce, strong, and fearless.
2. Defend your Clan, even with your life.
3. The word of the Clan Leader is the warrior code.
4. The deputy will become Clan leader when the leader dies.
5. After the death or retirement of the deputy, the new deputy must be chosen before moonhigh.
6. Unless they have permission, cats may not eat prey they themselves have not caught.
7. Queens are to continue with their warrior duties until their kits are born and must return to the rank of the warriors immediately after their kits are weaned.
8. A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice, however in-camp training is to begin immediately after kits are weaned.
9. Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats.

I've actually been thinking about reintroducing a planned plots feature, I should be able to type it all up tomorrow :)

With the DawnClan thing thats happening, maybe some of the cats that disagree could form a type of sub-clan out in the loner territory or something?
