Isolation Plot Planning II

Posted by Ember on June 5, 2016 at 1:35 AM

Hey guys! In the last two Plot Planning Pages we’ve discussed a lot of good ideas, however we haven’t decided how these ideas will fit together into a one story line:

Two-legs may begin poisoning prey, which the clans mistake for planned attacks by enemy clans.

Blackpine will be killed by Seraphgaze, prompting Lionstar to seek revenge. However, he does not want to be seen openly attacking and orders his warriors to stalk along the border and look for discreet ways to undermine DawnClan’s security. While walking along the border, the NightClan patrol discovers a small fire caused by a cigarettes thrown from a car and help fuel the fire before returning to their territory.

The fire plot is related to potentially polluting the river, but he ash itself wouldn't be the main polluter, as the fire would stay relatively small and not burn down whole trees, mainly lower-growing plants and leaf litter. We can just use it to cause an algal bloom, then the resulting fallout from that. We can exaggerate the following fish kill, which NightClan could use to their advantage, even if it’s a consequence they didn't originally expect. As well, ideas have been thrown about involving NightClan polluting the water in other ways, possibly with two-leg trash or even with the bodies of other dead cats and prey.

Riversoul and Alienfish brought up the possibility of clans bringing in spies, possibly beginning with apprentices in meetings and later escalating to clans sending in cats pretending to be changing clans. As these spies are found, a witch-hunt may begin among the clans as they attempt to root out other potential spies among cats who had recently joined the camp.

Toxic and I have also been tossing back and forth a few ideas of where to carry this plot, focusing on SunClan:

SunClan can become a scapegoat for the apprentices meeting up and the other problems that have been occurring between the clans, a sentiment that will be particularly strong in NightClan. Today, Lightningdance and Leopard-dance took their kits to the Gathering Clearing to show them to their friend, Nightfall. Hel, a SunClanner, caused accidentally caused their three kits to die. A fight broke out, witnessed by Darkstar and a SunClan patrol originally sent to bring back Aloepaw. Lionstar hears of the kits’ death and decides to pin some additional murders on SunClan and may try and convince MoonClan and DawnClan to put SunClan “back in its place”. This acts as a departure from total isolation, however we can approach the alliance as only temporary.

The three clans can attack SunClan, which will force their leadership to crack down on their members to ensure the other clans can’t pin any more trouble on the SunClan. At the most dramatic, this could entail both Darkstar and Zenithrose being killed and a tyrannical cat taking control, or we can take a more moderate approach by having the existing leadership begin to very strictly enforce rules to keep their cats in line. Halo, Command, would you be willing to have your characters removed from their positions or dramatically change their leadership style?

So, we need to decide how to stitch this all into a coherent plot and build a rough time-line for everything. As summer has started and most of our members will be on vacation, I expect a jump in activity over the next few months, so we should be keeping the plot moving fairly quickly to keep everything interesting, but still slowly enough to allow room for side plots.

They could meet at a neutral place, like Hawk's Tree, where they're less likely to be suspicious. Darkstar could take four or five warriors, while Poppystar could take a large battle patrol with her.

Ah, that would be better.

What would happen to the four or five warriors? Would they die or be imprisoned as well? I can volunteer Thymeflight for the patrol if they gave imprisonment, or Sorrelspot if they face death.

One or two might be able to get away and send word back to the SunClanners, or we could keep the SunClanners in the dark.

The warriors would be captured or die from injuries sustained in the fight, depending on what their owners want them to do.

I think it would be better to leave Sunclan in the dark until Nightclan decides to share with them or they find the fight scene. It would be more dramatic that way. And I'd love Thymeflight to be taken captive, but would having multiple prisoners change any of Nightclan's following actions than if they only had Darkstar? They could try to demand more depending on how many prisoners they gained, and what would these demands include?

Territory, I would presume, would be NightClan's first demand. However, perhaps in an effort to hold more cards, SunClan captures a NightClan border patrol. In this way they might be able to at least regain their lost warriors.

This is probably too late to mention and wouldn't work, but if we had NightClan send a spy into SunClan, they could help convince Darkstar to come to negotiate with LightClan, saying that when they left, NightClan was about to kill the whole patrol if Darkstar didn't show up. The spy could also come on the patrol to NightClan as one of the backup, being brought along in case they need any knowledge of NightClan or the city on their way, but then betray them when NightClan attacks the backup, and help outnumber the SunClanners. This would also avoid having to have another member who was willing to kill their character or have their character imprisoned.

I volunteer Fawnshade as tribute to the patrol that gets captured.

I probably missed it. But where are the DawnClan cats going, exactly, now that they've evacuated the camp? @[email protected]

Just to the northeastern corner of their territory, as far from the fire as they can go without crossing borders.

With the capture plot, i can have Justicebreeze in the patrol and be killed, as i hardly use him. Bluegaze, Blackclaw or Crisisflame can be in the patrol but will live.

Phoenixrise can be on the patrol.

I take it that the capture of Darkstar is the preferred situation. Are we also planning to go with the capture of a different SunClan patrol being the instigation for the capture of Darkstar, or is there a different, preferred trigger moment?

NightClan could start messing with the border, since they might not want to have to hold onto too many prisoners. Their main concern is to prove their dominance, but I don?t think they?d be interested in any sort of long-term commitment, which would ultimately include territory they don?t have any use for, but they?ll want some sort of bargaining chips.

I suggest that we try to go through with this Darkstar-demotion plot rather quickly, as I will be gone for most of the remaining summer as of two days from now.

Okay, we can start it right now :)
To speed things up, we can have Darkstar on the patrol that first goes to investigate the border, rather than having him meet up with Poppystar at Hawk's Tree.

That works for me. I have only one NightClan cat, and they would not be keen to engage in such a patrol as the one which is planned for this plot, so I'm afraid I can't help there at all.

I'd like to have Riverblossom out of his position before the 18th, preferably by dying. I was thinking maybe one of the strong traditionalists could kill him and frame one of the other clans. Thoughts?

I could volunteer Spookynightmare for such a task.
