Isolation Plot Planning II

Posted by Ember on June 5, 2016 at 1:35 AM

Hey guys! In the last two Plot Planning Pages we’ve discussed a lot of good ideas, however we haven’t decided how these ideas will fit together into a one story line:

Two-legs may begin poisoning prey, which the clans mistake for planned attacks by enemy clans.

Blackpine will be killed by Seraphgaze, prompting Lionstar to seek revenge. However, he does not want to be seen openly attacking and orders his warriors to stalk along the border and look for discreet ways to undermine DawnClan’s security. While walking along the border, the NightClan patrol discovers a small fire caused by a cigarettes thrown from a car and help fuel the fire before returning to their territory.

The fire plot is related to potentially polluting the river, but he ash itself wouldn't be the main polluter, as the fire would stay relatively small and not burn down whole trees, mainly lower-growing plants and leaf litter. We can just use it to cause an algal bloom, then the resulting fallout from that. We can exaggerate the following fish kill, which NightClan could use to their advantage, even if it’s a consequence they didn't originally expect. As well, ideas have been thrown about involving NightClan polluting the water in other ways, possibly with two-leg trash or even with the bodies of other dead cats and prey.

Riversoul and Alienfish brought up the possibility of clans bringing in spies, possibly beginning with apprentices in meetings and later escalating to clans sending in cats pretending to be changing clans. As these spies are found, a witch-hunt may begin among the clans as they attempt to root out other potential spies among cats who had recently joined the camp.

Toxic and I have also been tossing back and forth a few ideas of where to carry this plot, focusing on SunClan:

SunClan can become a scapegoat for the apprentices meeting up and the other problems that have been occurring between the clans, a sentiment that will be particularly strong in NightClan. Today, Lightningdance and Leopard-dance took their kits to the Gathering Clearing to show them to their friend, Nightfall. Hel, a SunClanner, caused accidentally caused their three kits to die. A fight broke out, witnessed by Darkstar and a SunClan patrol originally sent to bring back Aloepaw. Lionstar hears of the kits’ death and decides to pin some additional murders on SunClan and may try and convince MoonClan and DawnClan to put SunClan “back in its place”. This acts as a departure from total isolation, however we can approach the alliance as only temporary.

The three clans can attack SunClan, which will force their leadership to crack down on their members to ensure the other clans can’t pin any more trouble on the SunClan. At the most dramatic, this could entail both Darkstar and Zenithrose being killed and a tyrannical cat taking control, or we can take a more moderate approach by having the existing leadership begin to very strictly enforce rules to keep their cats in line. Halo, Command, would you be willing to have your characters removed from their positions or dramatically change their leadership style?

So, we need to decide how to stitch this all into a coherent plot and build a rough time-line for everything. As summer has started and most of our members will be on vacation, I expect a jump in activity over the next few months, so we should be keeping the plot moving fairly quickly to keep everything interesting, but still slowly enough to allow room for side plots.

This initial wave of spies won't be caught.

I don't think it makes sense for SunClan to trick Faminepaw into doing anything. If they wanted her gone, they'd just kick her out.

How soon should the "fire patrol" from NightClan return, after getting the fire started, I mean? I believe that it's already sparked. It just has to start raging, I'm guessing? But I don't know how bad it should be before the patrol goes back to the camp.

I'm not seeing anything about it in the DawnClan territory thread, but after it does get started, I think they'll want to get out as soon as the fire gets to a size that it's growing rapidly and won't easily die out. So, they shouldn't be sticking around for long.

It's starting on NightClan's side, but no one posted that it was a roaring fire yet. In either territory. Should I do that? Or should one of the others post something to that effect?

Is the fire going to reach anywhere near DawnClan's camp, or just stay in the territory?

NightClan doesn't share a border with DawnClan, so it should be moved to the DawnClan territory thread.

Oh. I guess that it is starting in the burnt woods or something, along SunClan, then? Or MoonClan? I didn't want Scorchedfox to cross over any borders, to be honest... :/

They have to cross borders to do it, the fire was planned to take place in the southwestern corner of DawnClan's territory-- nowhere near NightClan. :(

I guess the others in the patrol can go ahead. Scorched wouldn't leave the territory. I probably shouldn't have offered her up... Not if she was to be a patrol leader. Wait, southwestern corner? Wouldn't SunClan be a more logical choice to start a fire? Since they share that border?

The fire will already be started on the DawnClan side by the cigarette butt, they're not going to try and move it across the street.

This is late.
Traditionalists: Oriolestar, Mammothpaw, Dahliasun, Snowymist
Nationalists: Zaffresoul
Neutral: Blossompaw
Also, when should the fire start?

Darkstar will be removed from his leadership position within the next week. How that could benefit the plot should be discussed.

A few ideas I have are listed below. Keep in mind that while I may not specify it in each idea, the end result would be a stricter leader for SunClan, as Darkstar clearly does not suit the direction the clan is heading.

1. Building off of the the current situation between DawnClan and SunClan, Darkstar is, for some reason, imprisoned while in DawnClan, forcing a new cat (Icedawn) to take up the mantle of leader in SunClan. If Darkstar is returned to his own clan (Perhaps through a prisoner exchange, an exchange of territory, or a change of leadership in DawnClan), then he does so quite battered and, having already had qualms about continuing to lead the clan, decides not to usurp the new normality and retires to the life of a warrior.

2. With Zenithrise having left the clans, it is up to Darkstar to name a new deputy. This choice sparks dissension within the clan, and someone (Perhaps Icedawn?) comes forward to complain that the new deputy does not suit the clan's ideals. In a DawnClan-esque uprising, Darkstar is convinced or forced to step down, and with him goes the deputy, allowing for newer, stricter leaders to take their places.

What better ideas are out there?

I like both ideas, but I feel like the second one would go better with the current plot. Dawnclan would be so worried about the fire and the shortage of fish that it would seem illogical for them to take in a prisoner while they're already dealing with their own problems. The second one just seems easiest and most realistic.

It makes more sense, at least to me, for NightClan to take him prisoner. They're wanting to prove their strength and kidnapping a leader is one way to do that.

That's actually a really good idea, I think we should go with that one.

How would Darkstar be imprisoned?

Here's my idea.

Poppystar could see Sunclan as a weak clan that's standing in her way of bringing Nightclan to the top, so she would want to destroy it. She would send out a patrol of the strongest cats in Nightclan to Sunclan to "talk" to Darkstar, ultimately ending up with them bringing Darkstar to Nightclan and imprisoning him.

I prefer the NightClan idea as well. Another reason for Poppystar to kidnap Darkstar could be as retribution for the perceived injuries of moons past - after all, Poppystar was named leader by Lionstar during a speech in which he referred to SunClan as needing to be punished for the deaths of Lionstar's grandchildren. Perhaps, to add onto Gray's idea, NightClan kidnaps a border patrol and lures Darkstar to the border by saying that they will only agree to give back the patrol if the leader himself comes to negotiate. Of course, this is a trap, and Darkstar is captured. So basically exactly what Gray suggested, but now with more details!

But wouldn't Darkstar arrive at th scene with backup? Unless the NightClan patrol gives him no other choice (come negotiate yourself or )?
Or maybe, if he does arrive with backup, suspecting some funny business, the backup could be killed? But we'd hav to have people willing ti have their cats killed for that to work out...

If NightClan simply had more cats, hiding in the city, then the backup might be conceivably overwhelmed, and Darkstar could be captured as he ordered the backup to retreat so that deaths would not be the result of the altercation.
