Isolation Plot Planning II

Posted by Ember on June 5, 2016 at 1:35 AM

Hey guys! In the last two Plot Planning Pages we’ve discussed a lot of good ideas, however we haven’t decided how these ideas will fit together into a one story line:

Two-legs may begin poisoning prey, which the clans mistake for planned attacks by enemy clans.

Blackpine will be killed by Seraphgaze, prompting Lionstar to seek revenge. However, he does not want to be seen openly attacking and orders his warriors to stalk along the border and look for discreet ways to undermine DawnClan’s security. While walking along the border, the NightClan patrol discovers a small fire caused by a cigarettes thrown from a car and help fuel the fire before returning to their territory.

The fire plot is related to potentially polluting the river, but he ash itself wouldn't be the main polluter, as the fire would stay relatively small and not burn down whole trees, mainly lower-growing plants and leaf litter. We can just use it to cause an algal bloom, then the resulting fallout from that. We can exaggerate the following fish kill, which NightClan could use to their advantage, even if it’s a consequence they didn't originally expect. As well, ideas have been thrown about involving NightClan polluting the water in other ways, possibly with two-leg trash or even with the bodies of other dead cats and prey.

Riversoul and Alienfish brought up the possibility of clans bringing in spies, possibly beginning with apprentices in meetings and later escalating to clans sending in cats pretending to be changing clans. As these spies are found, a witch-hunt may begin among the clans as they attempt to root out other potential spies among cats who had recently joined the camp.

Toxic and I have also been tossing back and forth a few ideas of where to carry this plot, focusing on SunClan:

SunClan can become a scapegoat for the apprentices meeting up and the other problems that have been occurring between the clans, a sentiment that will be particularly strong in NightClan. Today, Lightningdance and Leopard-dance took their kits to the Gathering Clearing to show them to their friend, Nightfall. Hel, a SunClanner, caused accidentally caused their three kits to die. A fight broke out, witnessed by Darkstar and a SunClan patrol originally sent to bring back Aloepaw. Lionstar hears of the kits’ death and decides to pin some additional murders on SunClan and may try and convince MoonClan and DawnClan to put SunClan “back in its place”. This acts as a departure from total isolation, however we can approach the alliance as only temporary.

The three clans can attack SunClan, which will force their leadership to crack down on their members to ensure the other clans can’t pin any more trouble on the SunClan. At the most dramatic, this could entail both Darkstar and Zenithrose being killed and a tyrannical cat taking control, or we can take a more moderate approach by having the existing leadership begin to very strictly enforce rules to keep their cats in line. Halo, Command, would you be willing to have your characters removed from their positions or dramatically change their leadership style?

So, we need to decide how to stitch this all into a coherent plot and build a rough time-line for everything. As summer has started and most of our members will be on vacation, I expect a jump in activity over the next few months, so we should be keeping the plot moving fairly quickly to keep everything interesting, but still slowly enough to allow room for side plots.

I honestly feel like we have alot of the leaders die very soon, as Darkstar isn't that old. Maybe Zentihrise for dramatic affect but from personal point of view, I feel as if it is unfair towards the members who are offered this position to be stripped of it so soon? Dark may loose some lifes, but to kill him off completely? It seems a bit harsh. It is up to Halo and Alien but I think at least Darkstar should loose some lives, and at most Zenith killed and Darkstar only having one life left.

I feel that I have to agree with Spicy. If I were given a leader or deputy and told I had to have the character killed off, entirely, all at once, I would be disappointed (I know I had Burntstar, but this is just me trying to make a point). Perhaps Darkstar can loose several lives and maybe Zenithrise be crippled or something? That way they can still be alive? Zenith may not be deputy, depending on how badly injured they are; however, they would still be playable?

With the spies idea, I have been looking at my list of cats and I think I have a few I could offer up for suspicions to be placed upon them. If we do go down that road. Goshawktalon would likely be the best one, out of my cats, to have cats be suspicious of him. Maybe even Falconeyes, since he is secretive of his past; absolutely refusing any cat the chance to hear of his life before joining the clans.

I have slowly been having Darkstar shift towards a more paranoid style of leadership; the main problem with this is that I don't know how far I can go in terms of reprimanding cats. Banishment seems too harsh to the owners of the cats, but it often seems like the path Darkstar would choose for some recent events. We could definitely have Darkstar lose some lives soon, prompting him towards more paranoia and a far stricter leadership. Halo and I have also discussed a rift forming between Zenithrise and Darkstar, although we had not decided when it would occur.

I would feel selfish if I said I didn't want Zenithrise to give up the position, given my recent decline in activity and the fact that there are plenty of people who deserve the position. I only have one more week left of exams, though, and then a couple weeks of holiday.

I feel as though Zenithrise and Darkstar are both (realistically) capable of enforcing extremely strict rules and becoming tyrannical. As Alienfish said, we planned on having a rift form between them and the tension could add to the change in leadership style. If Zenithrise has to die, I'd like it to be to further Darkstar's character development so that he can be what he needs to be for the plot.

Me trying to get to a point: I don't want to put myself in the way of plot progression and drama. So whatever is best for the plot, I'll do.

If Darkstar becomes more strict and paranoid, would it be within Zenithrise's character to disagree with his policies, or would she be on side with them?

Okay, having both of them shift to being tyrannical works great. Lion and I were also considering having them form a group of Head Warriors to keep all of the warriors in line and act as Dark and Zenith's extra eyes and ears around the camp.

I like the idea of Head Warriors; there are a few warriors who come to mind immediately, as ones who Darkstar might select. (Yuccathorn, Bluegaze, etc.)

If we do decide to go through with the Head Warriors idea my cat Piketooth would be up for it.

She would probably accept them, for less-than-honourable-reasons. Head Warriors sounds great!

Bluewaves could be a possible head-warrior for Sunclan. He doesn't have a real personality written in his description, but the way I've role-played him has him leaning towards rude, harsh and loyal. For the spies I was thinking that maybe some kits from the clans could be put near a different clans camp and have a backstory of how they got lost or of their family dying and then have specific meeting spots if they do happen to be accepted into the clan these been assigned to.

I know I've had Coyotesnarl for a long time and as a loyal character, but I remember having a Head Warrior position, which was equivalent to a leader or deputy. This would mean we would need 4 more high ranks on top of the 8 we have already, not including medicine cats.

Only SunClan would have head warriors, two or three of them picked from the most active members who don't already have a different high ranking position.

Alright. I feel like Anarchy might be a good choice only due to him having being here before and now becoming more active ans having new and free space. Lol, no sponser but opinion here.

I like the standpoint Spicy makes on Darkstar and Zenith's behalf. I believe tension and disagreement between the two would be a good plot point.

With head warriors, I say Darkstar maybe perhaps in his dramatic change, perhaps begins to put them first? Like instead of the elders, kits, and queens being fed first, the head warriors get the finest kill and that causes a difference of opinions. Just an idea.

Perhaps Swanpaw could die during this? She is a medicine cat of SunClan, and poisoning could hit her first. (If this is totally not true to the conversation, i'm sorry.)

Whisper, in response to your idea about prioritization of Head Warriors over other cats, I don't feel as though that would be the ideal route. Darkstar is, above all else, devoted to the betterment of his clan. His tyranny would be to make the entire clan better, and in doing this he would be promoting a standardized image for SunClan cats, one which would completely eliminate the bending of the warrior code or what he views as a basic moral code which all cats should follow. By having some cats treated better than others in such a blatant manner would be counter-intuitive and nearly hypocritical; I don't envision him as becoming crazy enough to do this.

I agree with Alien, their harsh new rule would be centered around SunClan's main ideal: the clan always comes before the individual. The head warriors would have power, but they wouldn't be so openly abusing it.

Are we still working on an assassination plan?
I have two cats that I could gladly use to kill cats off from all clans.
If you want a cat killed off anyhow, just PM me.

No, we don't have a plan for any assassin groups to be made this arc.
