Plot Planning

Posted by Ember on February 28, 2016 at 6:40 PM

Now that the flooding arc has drawn to a close, it’s time to start considering where we want to carry the war from here. MoonClan and NightClan are loosely allied, as are SunClan and DawnClan, but where do we want the source of their next battle to come from?

We can continue to feed off of the assassin plot, possibly, if cats continue to go missing from border patrols and such, or we can start something new, possibly escalated border skirmishes, drama at a gathering, etc.

In the last plot planning page, we considered having apprentices continue meeting at the gathering clearing and eventually being found out by their leaders.

What do y’all think should happen?

Ooo, good idea!

They wouldn't make the fire themselves. Like Ember said they could use a cigarette butt, or they could get it from a trash can fire. Detroit's certainly a large enough city to warrant some, and the temperature will be dropping as we move into leaf fall. They could also get it just from someone's bonfire or campfire in their backyard, or do any mixture of those. There would be multiple failures with attempting to start it, and probably quite a few accidents.

One thing about the fire trying to eliminate Dawnclan's prey is bugging me. Dawnclan mainly eats fish, so what would they do to the river? It would be pretty useless to have a fire destroy nearly an entire territory and then still have Dawnclan with a plentiful supply of prey (fish).

Gasoline is one thing I was thinking of. They could light a trail of gasoline and use a cigarette but to light it, and then maybe dump the excess gasoline into the lake to eliminate the aquatic prey? I don't know, it's just an idea.

I don't think fish is meant to be their main source of prey, just one of them, and having the other prey animals run out would force them to cut down on how much they consume, not to a fatal amount but to an uncomfortable one. I don't know if gasoline on top of the water would kill the fish underneath it.

The clans could experience an unusually cold leaf fall that freezes over the rivers.

The phosphate in the ash that gets in the river could cause an algal bloom, which would cause a fish kill. There probably wouldn't be enough ash for the eventual drop in dissolved oxygen to be too big, though?

I don't think I enjoy the sound of this idea, if it was a fire from a bonfire or it was a garbage fire they wouldn't have a reasonable method of transporting it. A cigarette butt is far to miniscule to even start a fire unless they were in a drought which they aren't, and with rivers in the territory the humidity there is higher than anywhere else in the clans.

If it was a bonfire, they could just pick up one of the burning sticks on a non burning end and bring it over to DawnClan's camp. It could probably spread pretty quickly.

Yes, but surely there would be a LOT of trouble with this that Nightclan wouldn't want to deal with (like Toxic stated). The stick catching on fire even more and burning the cat who has the bad end of carrying it. But, we could say that Two-legs were moving close to Dawnclan's territory for a camping trip, and since the distance was very little, Nightclan saw the chance to strike.

That would mean they'd have to get close to Two legs without them knowing and pick up a BURNING LOG and then carry that log to a secluded spot in Dawnclan territory to start a fire.

Maybe we could have Starclan send down a lightning bolt or something to start the fire? That would sure be a heck of a lot easier. (i'm not good at coming up with ideas i apologize)

It doesn't have to be a log, just a stick. A cat could grab a branch with some dried up, dead leaves on the end (since it'll be leaf fall), and transport it to DawnClan's territory. The carrier would get burned but it's not impossible, especially if the source of the fire is near the border. And they can be going through a mini drought at the time.

The clans have to be able to respond directly to Seraphgaze's actions in some way without starting a war, as that would be pulling them out of isolation.

StarClan would certainly be an easier answer, Grey, but we can't have StarClan actually interfering. Perhaps there'd be a way for a NightClan warrior(s) to aid in a fire that was already beginning to start at the border. (Caused by a lit cigarette butt, dumb kids, campers, etc.) and instead of putting it out, they could feed it with dry leaves and twigs until it started to spread on its own.

That actually seems like a great idea; feed it and bolt.

Unless that stick was scorching I highly doubt that by the time they got to where they wanted to start the fire it would die down enough from the travel over, if the stick was bigger it might stay lit but that would be too heavy for a cat to hold up in his mouth without dragging it on the ground which wouldn't be ideal. If the stick was just light enough to be held the fire would not last with out the central heat of the source of fire and therefore would burn out.

The original bonfire could be from the edge of the city, so they wouldn't have to carry it too far. And, they could have multiple cats carry burning sticks, so they'd have a higher probability of atleast one of them succeeding in lighting a fire.

Like Riversoul said, the bonfire doesn't have to be far away from DawnClan's territory. It can be convieniantly close, and there would be more than one cat working on it.

One of the meeting apprentices can think themself a prophet and try to start a new clan, but not be recognized by StarClan and eventually it falls apart.

The bonfire could even be IN DawnClan's territory, if we wanted. There could just be a two-leg camping on the edge of the territory, who left the fire unattended for a couple minutes to grab some more kindling or something like that. Or, if we wanted them to be, they could just be a really stupid two-leg who went asleep or left for a longer time with it still burning.

One thing bugging me with that is even if they had multiple cats carrying the stick, none of them would probably hold the burning end. It most likely would either a) be extinguished as it's dragged across the ground or b) set fire to the grass it's being dragged across

It doesn't necessarily have to be a big stick, there could just be a bunch of small sticks that they could carry by them selves, that aren't even long enough to drag on the ground.

maybe, but smaller sticks will probably burn out faster
