Flood Arc Plot Planning II

Posted by Ember on January 1, 2016 at 3:10 PM

How long do y’all want the flooding to last?

We’re getting to the end of when the arc was scheduled to come to a close, but there’s been little conflict between the clans. What do you think we should be using as a source of tension (sickness, some planned conflicts between leaders and groups, maybe some skirmishes breaking out, etc.) or would you rather leave this arc as one that unifies the clans against, for instance, a drought?

I don't know if NightClan would defend Keiko. NightClan was the clan most directly affected by the kidnapping and they're the clan that sent out the patrol to kill the rest of the gang and rescue Sirensong. I can't speak for Coldstar, but Liondance would want to exile them the second he found out.

I don?t think that we should be making the assassin plot any more complicated, instead we should try to wrap it up this weekend, so we can have the big battle next weekend at the latest, and bring the flood arc to a close so we can move on to more normal clan life.

A good way for clan lines to blur would be for two of the leaders to grow romantically involved (bonus points if that includes cheating on their existing mate in their clan).
I haven't been back long, so I don't expect to have much sway (rightfully so, I've no idea what's been going on lately with these crazy kitties).

To help expand the plot and blurred lines, after the clan's return to their camp there could be a group of cats who continue to meet with each other at Hawk's Tree (probably the younger cats).

Wouldn't the Clans eventually find out about their sneaking off (scent trails, general tired attitudes from the sneaking cats)?

I think the point of it would be that the clans DO find out, and then react in different ways.

Also, to extend on that, what if one of these cats was murdered, and the leadership of the cat's clan blames one of the other members of the sneaking group?

The other cats in the sneaking group who hailed from the clan which had lost a member could seek vengeance, or perhaps they join a different clan because they don't trust their leaders. Either way, a conflict could emerge.

Right, the point of it would be that the leaders find out pretty quickly and try to put a stop to it :)

But (Devil's Advocate here) why wouldn't they want the apprentices to be mingling? Learning skills from other clans? Possibly making other cats more susceptible to joining their clan? I could imagine a clan such as NightClan taking advantage of this situation, to try and gain more skilful apprentices.

Having them meet constantly and be friends with each other blurs loyalties. I don't think the clans that are allied would mind their apprentices meeting so much, but the ones who are going to be enemies would be completely against it. If you're a MoonClanner and you're best friends with a cat from DawnClan, you're not going to be willing to fight them in battle.

True. What if the leaders sent cats who wouldn't be corrupted to join this group? Cats sent for the purpose of winning over other apprentices, and possibly infiltrating the other clans?

Having leaders pair up would be interesting, but I think it?s a bit late for us to start anything up like that.
Apprentices sneaking off sounds like fun!

So, the battle?s coming up. Right now, Yuccathorn is talking to Epochstar about some suspicious scents she found in the territory and suggesting that Epochstar call a meeting of leaders to discuss what new security measures should be put in place. We can have this meeting act as a gathering, will all characters witnessing it. When Epochstar (or Yuccathorn) tell the clans that the scents belonged to MoonClanners and NightClanners, the clans can start fighting over whether they?re being fairly blamed, or if Epochstar is just looking for a reason to evict them from the territory. DawnClan will take SunClan?s side, believing that SunClan?s interest is truly in finding the cats who killed Lilwish, not in kicking out an entire clan, while MoonClan and NightClan will feel attacked and grow defensive by Epochstar?s accusations. Tensions will rise and break out in a battle.
We can start the meeting tomorrow or Friday (however soon we can get it going), and have the scene progress naturally (however, we all should be focusing on playing characters who will escalate the conflict) into the battle. By Monday, the battle should come to an end with SunClan as the victors, who force NightClan and MoonClan to return to their territories. DawnClan can return home shortly after, as the flood will have gone down enough.
Sound good to all of y?all?

Will the NightClan MoonClan loss be more of a surrender or a flee? If SunClan and DawnClan forced them to run, we could be left with an interesting situation with the queens, kits, elders, and sick who would likely be left behind.

I don't think we should make this plot point very complicated, if we just had them grab some kits that weren't clearly belonging to their clan that should be enough to spark some more conflict later on.

It seems as though every time we've built up enough tension to start a battle, we kill it! When are we planning to commence the blood spill?

As soon as we can bring the tension back up.

All right. I think I'm running low on characters who can raise tension, but I'll do my best to help out.
