Flood Arc Plot Planning II

Posted by Ember on January 1, 2016 at 3:10 PM

How long do y’all want the flooding to last?

We’re getting to the end of when the arc was scheduled to come to a close, but there’s been little conflict between the clans. What do you think we should be using as a source of tension (sickness, some planned conflicts between leaders and groups, maybe some skirmishes breaking out, etc.) or would you rather leave this arc as one that unifies the clans against, for instance, a drought?

If the assassins ever want to move in the direction of killing "higher up" cats, I can have Blue-eyes as a victim (not soon, but eventually). However, if the people in the group don't want their characters to eventually be exiled/killed for their crimes, I'd suggest keeping it more low-key and not expanding upon the current victims. Of course, with the all the cats already planned to be killed, the idea that they'll never be found out and punished is extremely unlikely.

What is the motive of the group? Are they just cold-blooded killers doing it for fun?

What if the assasin squad tries to kill a cat, but he\she survives and gets to the leaders and all the cat can say to the leaders is one of the cats in the squads names before they die, and the leaders question the cat mentioned? Just a random idea.

Since it?s so NightClan-centered at the moment, they could be trying to set their clan apart and reclaim a past they view as having been made great by the clan?s ferocity and even violent nature. We could have things start off as the clan boundaries start to blur, they could simply be the most violent faction arising as everyone attempts to find ways to rebuild meaningful clan identities?

But a couple of the victims are NightClan cats, and more specifically, Coldstar's kits. He hasn't necessarily been a soft and lenient leader, so why would Silktongue be targeted?

Silktongue reflects poorly on the clan, she?s a priss who doesn?t care for pulling her own weight.

Some of the victims could also be cats who come close to uncovering their plot, not necessarily planned assassinations?

I could have Liquidstride and Jackalsong do a hunting patrol and walk in on a murder accidentally, eliminating the need for a motive.

I really like River's idea X3 This could happen as the resolution to the arc and cats moving back to their own territories?

I think that idea is excellent, however there would be no way Locuststar would ever agree to have his apprentice pool trained by Nightclan Warriors or by any other clan for that matter.

It's an interesting idea, in my opinion, but from what I've seen, none of the other clans would ever agree to putting NightClan in charge of settling disputes, since none of the other leaders trust any of those cats. Perhaps NightClan and SunClan's positions could be switched, since it is SunClan's territory, so theoretically they would be the most righteous judges of the barn. Other than that, the idea seems solid. I especially like the part wherein cats who specialize in an area other than what their clan has been assigned to can join other groups. This could create tension, wherein the cats form tight friendships with members of other clans through their common activities, and then the leaders/warriors from their clan get suspicious of betrayal. It seems really well rounded!

Nightclan isn't known for their hunting skills, from what I've read and seen?....but maybe if we had a mix of both? Since Nightclanners are reputed to be good fighters which is good for security and threats, and Sunclanners can be the ones counted on to keep things fair and keep their head cool? And at the same time Nightclanners could aid Sunclan in hunting?

I?m not so sure about that idea of splitting up the clans. As is, they?re struggling to feed themselves, so most of the warriors will have to be devoted to hunting. Only a handful will be needed for defense, as there isn?t much area to patrol and the camp is crowded with whoever isn?t out hunting at the moment. The warriors don?t have enough healing knowledge for a large number of them to be effective in gathering supplies and tending to the sick (in fact, if a whole clan was set on that they?d be crowding out the sick cats). As well as that, gathering herbs isn?t the problem so much as that there are no herbs to be gathered, since so much of the territory is underwater.

I agree that we need to make this arc more organized, but how about we organize it by ranks and through a series of new rules, instead of by clans? The medicine cats could train all of the queens in gathering herbs and taking care of the sick, as most of the sick are kits and the queens are naturally the ones to take care of them. All of the clans would hunt and defend, but maybe all organized patrols would be required to have at least one of each clan, so there?s a SunClanner to navigate the territory, a NightClanner to handle any threats, a MoonClanner to provide hunting expertise, and a DawnClanner to help out if any of the cats involved get swept into the water. To keep everything organized, each clan could have two or three ?Head Warriors? in charge of ensuring that prey is being distributed fairly and patrols are going out regularly with the right number of members.

This way, more members will be able to have special roles in the plot and the clans will get shuffled up to cause both confusion over clan identities and places for them to easily clash.

I like Ember's idea. It gets the clans to mix a little with each other without completely destroying clan boundaries, and it can all be easily organized from the current leadership within each clan without needing to worry about anyone stepping on anyone else's toes.
