Bandwidth

Posted by Ember on September 5, 2015 at 8:10 PM

This past month we have gone over our host’s bandwidth allowance, which puts the website in danger of being deactivated. Bandwidth is the amount of data (text, photos, videos, etc.) that is served to users.

To limit your bandwidth usage, please avoid rapidly refreshing pages as you wait for responses, or flipping between pages more often than necessary. In particular, avoid clicking on art or video pages to refresh the website, as these are much bigger files than text and therefore use more bandwidth. When uploading videos, it’s best to host them externally (through YouTube, for example) and embedding the video into Webs so it doesn’t consume our bandwidth.

Deleting pictures won't help, since those would be counted under storage. We're using about 2% of our allowed storage, so that isn't an issue.

Riversoul, I don't think that kind of plan would work in the long-term. We're already over for the month, so what's most important now is making sure we don't go over our limit again.

Could we delete threads that aren't used much, like the loner city and kittypet roleplays and make Nightclan territory include all three, and call it Nightclan/City territory or something, and delete older pages and only create new ones for them when we need them? I don't know if that's a good long term plan, though.
