Plot Planning

Posted by Ember on June 5, 2015 at 1:15 PM

This upcoming weekend (Friday the 5th to Sunday the 7th) we have a battle scheduled, MoonClan and DawnClan will band together to carry out their first attack on NightClan, who will go to SunClan for support. The battle will be long with no clear winner, MoonClan and DawnClan will withdraw with the excuse that they have weakened NightClan enough to be able to return when their own strength has returned and destroy the clan, NightClan will claim that they were forced to flee.'

In the last plot planning blog entry Storm&Co suggested a new arc involving the leaders being overthrown that gathered quite a bit of enthusiasm. Angel and I have been throwing ideas back and forth for a bit and decided that it would be best if the current sickness plot lead directly to this, rather than ending this arc, waiting a bit, and beginning that one.

Following the battle taking place this weekend, the sickness will spread rapidly through MoonClan and DawnClan. Many more cats will fall ill, especially among those wounded in the battle. MoonClan and DawnClan leadership will begin to weaken and their clan’s criticism of them rise following a number of mistakes, openly beginning to break under stress, or perhaps saying or doing something perceived as cowardly, such as abandoning their commitment to destroying NightClan. What exactly this is should be planned for larger mistakes, but for smaller mistakes it will be up to the leaders themselves how they want their own leaders to begin to fall.

Weepingtiger will discover a plant that can be used to treat the disease and grows only in the thickest sections of DawnClan and MoonClan’s territories. He will share this knowledge with DawnClan’s medicine cats, but they will keep it secret from their enemy clans and point to the recovery of their warriors as being StarClan’s favor to their clans, and, most importantly, their medicine cats. This will place the medicine cats in a favored position among these clans, particularly in contrast to the seemingly weak leaders. Jaystar and Willowstar will make the mistake of attacking NightClan again when their warriors are still recovering, against Weepingtiger and Leorio’s public advice to wait. This will be a devastating battle for them.

Weepingtiger will capitalize on this situation to gather the support of his clan to run out or kill Jaystar, claiming to have received a prophecy from StarClan telling him to do so. His clan will support him and the new clan structure and values he proposes. The new leadership will be similar in structure to a tribe, with a combined leader and medicine cat position. To compensate for the fewer number of cats in charge that this would cause, there could be two medicine cat apprentices at a time, the medicine cat/leader would choose who would be their successor and they’d be a deputy medicine cat, or whatever title we decide to give them. They would take a very direct and important position in managing the clan, including giving periodic talks to the apprentices and warriors of the clan about StarClan and their code. These leader medicine cats will advocate for a closeness with StarClan and mandate that all clan cats worship them. They will be strict with the warrior code, even minor infractions will result in severe punishments. Stress will be placed on the birth of new kits, to strengthen their clan, as well as on apprentices and warriors spending a greater portion of their time serving the clan. Their modified code would include changes such as a rule specifying medicine cats not being allowed to have kits, that a clan cannot overthrow their leader unless both medicine cat apprentices agree and receive a sign from StarClan, that the warriors do not need to come to the aid of others, even enemy kits, because loyalty to their own clans is their greatest duty, the clans may chase out other clans who do not believe in StarClan—things like that. This new code will need to be drafted, ideas for rules to be added are greatly appreciated. The leader medicine cats will be appointed by the website owner as they will be in an even higher position of power than the current leaders.

Under this new structure, MoonClan will attack NightClan again and be more successful, or be able to successfully defeat a NightClan attack. While this will have more to do with the sickness having being eradicated from their clan while it remains strong in NightClan, Weepingtiger will pin their victory on StarClan’s approval, prompting DawnClan to fall to this new system of leadership as well.

All of this new arc is still up in the air, of course. This plan can be changed, it is just what Angel and I came up with for larger plot points, with ideas of my own to transition through these bigger plot points. It will be one of the more dramatic plots that we have had on the website, and will require a large commitment from all members to work correctly. After the plot has run its course, the new leadership will fall again and the clans will return to their traditional structure.

I like option one or two for the uprising.

As for naming the medicine cat leaders, I think Chief is a good name. Gives that right vibe, if that makes sense?

I thought the medicine cat was going to keep their title, but just the current leader's was going to change?

Whoever the leader is, excuse me. I still like the title of Chief.

I like "head warrior" for the title, as it makes it clear they're not a leader by themselves.

I've got an idea for a rule(s),
?Clans who do not believe in StarClan are denied all access to the Moonstone. (even for leader ceremonies)
?Clans who ally with any Clan or Cat who does not believe in StarClan are denied all access to the Moonstone.
?The word of StarClan shall not be questioned.
?All cats who do not originate in a believing Clan, or have not been in a believing Clan longer than three moons, shall not be granted access to the regular dens until they have been purified. (a bit like a separation act, so they would have separate dens.)
?No cat from a non-believing Clan shall be allowed into a believing Clan.
?Cats who leave the camp are not to come back to camp empty pawed, any working cat found to have not added to the fresh-kill pile shall be punished.
?Elders are to do regular prayers to StarClan.
?Prayers are to be held once a moon and attended by those old enough to catch their own prey.
?The complete devotion to StarClan prohibits Medicine cats from having kits.
?Warriors are loyal to only their Clan and are not to help non-believing cats under any circumstance.
?All cats must be ready to make sacrifices in the name of StarClan's will.
?One's Clan above one's self, one's leader above one's Clan and StarClan above all.

Just a few I came up with when I was supposed to be studying. The last one can be reworked so that the Clan is above the leader if its applicable.

Here is an edited code with some of your rules included Nightingale. Some have been reworded, or my original rule ideas modified to be closer to some of yours :)

1. One's Clan above one's self, one's medicine cat above one's Clan, and StarClan above all.
2. All Clan cats must acknowledge the authority of StarClan.
3. No cat from a non-believing background shall be allowed into a believing Clan.
4. No believing Clan may ally themselves with nonbelieving cats.
5. Do not hunt or trespass outside of your territory.
6. Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats.
7. Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan for its life.
8. Elders and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders.
9. A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice.
10. Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name.
11. The medicine cat apprentice will become Clan medicine cat when the medicine cat dies or retires. The new [leader] will be named by the medicine cat when the leader dies or retires.
12. After the death or retirement of the medicine cat or [leader], the new medicine cat or [leader] must be chosen before moonhigh.
13. Medicine cats may not have a mate or kits.
14. A gathering of all Clans is held at the full moon during a truce that lasts for the night. There shall be no fighting among Clans at this time.
15. An honorable warrior does not need to kill other cats to win his battles, unless they are outside the warrior code or it is necessary for self-defense.
16. The word of the Clan medicine cat is the warrior code.

I like the idea of the medicine cat led clans attempting to bar the other ones (or at least NightClan) from going to the Moonstone. Maybe, even at the medicine cat meeting, the MC and DC medicine cats could tell NC's medicine cat not to come back until their clan as a whole develops a belief in StarClan. It could add to the drama and ultimately cause the idea of the uprising.

MoonClan and DawnClan could possibly start sending patrols to guard the Moonstone from any nonbelieving cats as well.

One heck of a storyline. It's new, and creative. This is going to be fun ladies and gentlemen. Strap in your seat belts because we are going for a ride

So, I guess we're going with the second option then?

When the leaders are demoted to Head Warrior (or whatever name we end up deciding on) are they going to keep the "star" part of their name, or will it go back to what it was when they were a warrior?

Yeah, it sounds like the second one is going to go best with where the battle is right now. All the medicine cats will meet this evening and go through the usual procedure, the battle will be discussed and the MC/DC medicine cats will make the basic structure for the new clans and the code.

Another rule could be added that non-believing cats (and cats from non-believing backgrounds) cannot enter the Mothermouth in addition to patrols being sent to guard it.

It could really go either way, with the names. As they are not the closest to StarClan the suffix could be stripped from them, or it could be kept as they're also keeping their lives.

So.. What about cats that have Nightclan blood, such as Crimsonblood's and Jetstar's kits... Will they be effected in anyway? (random thought). Due to some of them being in Moonclan/Dawnclan?

Since they are already in the clan they won't be asked the leave, but they may face some unpleasantness from their clan mates on account of it. No new cats from NC/SC will be accepted into MC/DC.

Exactly how should the duties be divided between the Head Warrior and the Medicine Cat? I know that the former leader will still be in charge of patrols and leading the battles (as well as enforcing the medicine cats rules), but will the medicine cats take over the ceremonies and speak at the Gatherings?

The ceremonies are done before StarClan, so that would fall to the medicine cat. Since the cat in the highest rank speaks at the gathering, I think it would make the most sense if the medicine cat spoke there as well.

Will gatherings resume even though NightClan and SunClan have no cure?

I think it would be okay to start Gatherings again. It could be a reason for MoonClan and DawnClan to show off that they're not afraid of the disease anymore, and let it be known that they have been cured because of StarClan and if the other clans had followed they would be cured too and other religious stuff.
