Plot Planning

Posted by Ember on April 9, 2015 at 9:00 AM

Here is the plot where we left off in the last plot entry. MoonClan and NightClan will continue to clash in a number of small border fights, these will not be officially organized so whenever you feel like starting one, get a few members together and go ahead with it. Be careful with powerplaying and to make sure that you’re putting tensions in the right place. These skirmishes will lead to a battle in which NightClan attacks MoonClan, in the fighting several kits could be injured or killed after being mistaken for young apprentices, or a NightClan warrior could attack MoonClan’s nursery. DawnClan will break their alliance with NightClan on moral grounds and join MoonClan, the two clans will decide to run NightClan out together. In the next gathering this plan will be announced, causing SunClan to join NightClan to preserve the balance of power and avoid creating a dangerous precedent of clans destroying eachother.

This plot is still flexible and can be changed if things begin to feel too forced. To make the changes in alliances more natural, they could be accompanied by a change of leadership in the clans. Toxicstar is already planned to be killed by a NightClan patrol. Burntstar is due to retire in May, Willowsong could be in power during the battle in which the MoonClan kits are injured or killed, and decide to change their alliance. However, this will force us to wait another month to have the battle begin, we could have a MoonClan/NightClan battle on the weekend of the 17th in which MoonClan attacks NightClan, possibly in response to Toxicstar’s death.

Also, during the attack on MoonClan, maybe one or a few NightClan warriors could attack the medicine cat, the medicine cat apprentice, and the medicine den, destroying most of the herbs.

Hickory, I like to avoid prophecies because they either restrict the plot, or put too much emphasis on a handful of characters and leave everyone else out.
Venom, SunClan has dropped out for now, but they'll be coming back when DawnClan switches sides. I don't want both of them to drop out, just so that they're involved in the plot and have something to do.
Angel, that sounds great.

Would the medicine cat and apprentice be killed?

If their owners wanted them to be it would certainly bring about a lot more tension, but having them attacked and injured would be enough.

I don't plan on killing Weepingtiger. Maybe blind him in one eye or some other injury but I'd still like the character to stay around xD

I can understand that Angel XD . I was thinking somewhat randomly- What if Dc backed out, letting Nc and Mc battle it out. Nc rounds on Dc for abandoning them but Sc stands by Dc, letting Dc and Sc effectively stay out of the war ..just a random thought

That would be a good move in the interest of them as characters, but not in the interest of us as roleplayers who want an interesting, inclusive plot. I'm going to have to veto any plan involving clans stepping out of this war for a while yet.

Unrelated to current plot:
So, I was thinking, what if a whole new group of cats created a clan? Not a gang, but a group similar to a clan without the warrior code, and they decided they wanted to join the four clans? They could stumble upon Sunclan through the loner plains after hearing tales of cats like their large group. The territory could expand into the loner plains for this fifth clan, which would be some plains land and some swamp land. Of course, to be put into action this idea would have to be strictly managed, but it could happen. Maybe. I think it would be refreshing after having constant wars between the same four clans over and over.

Sounds perfect so far. Ripple and I have already worked out how we're going to bring Goldenstar and Frozenstar together under one mindset. Or truce at least. I like Angel's addition about attacking the medicine den. As for anything I could add, SunClan hasn't had enough drama lately and are probably long overdue for some havoc in the camp. Toxicstar did vow to Goldenstar that in his time of need, MoonClan would not help because of his neutrality. I could see Toxicstar possibly sending out some MoonClanners out to stir up some SunClanners for allying themselves with NightClan.

As for Ebony's suggestion, I'm not sure the site is ready for a fifth clan. It could be an extremely crude gathering of cats with ideas and morals of their own, but as for an educated and organized clan, I don't see that as a plausible option in the near future. Possibly later on. I don't know, Ember may love the idea, but I don't think another 'clan' would help right now. As I said, a 'clan' in the loosest definition possible, maybe. Just my opinion, but I do find the thought of an eventual fifth clan intriguing.

I agree with Twin about the fifth clan, although I'm not sure that it would ever really work on the site. It's hard enough to organize inclusive plots with all four clans as it is, and keep all of them close to equal in characters. I think it would add a level of chaos that would be more of a hindrance than beneficial to the plot. However, I also agree that the clans getting mad and attacking each other is kind of old, and maybe instead of war after war we should start to focus on other possible plot lines for the clan.

I don?t see a fifth clan being added to the roleplay, at least any time soon. The number of members has remained fairly steady for the past year, there aren?t enough to justify adding another in order to create more high-ranking positions or opportunities to effect the plot. I?m not sure what defining characteristics we would give to a new clan in skills, personality, or even in territory. The location of the territory would be difficult as well, they would be offset from the rest of the clan and share only one border with them. With a fifth clan added, alliances would be out of balance or we would always have to make sure that one clan stays out of the fighting. As Angel pointed out, there could also be some difficulty in keeping things organized.
Wars were the basis of the plot in the actual books, as well as being easy to follow and inclusive, so that is what we've done in the past. However, I?m open to plot ideas that don?t include wars, as long as they are inclusive, keep the structure of the clans, and won?t drastically change the territories the setup of other things.

Sounds good, I really like the idea of the clans switching allies. It mixes things up and makes it more interesting. I really want to see where this goes with Moonclan and Dawnclan, then Sunclan and Nightclan.

Something completely unrelated- we should have a disaster a sickness or blizzard or something that forces the clans to all work together.

A fire, flood, or blizzard would come on so quickly it's unlikely they'd have much time to work together, but a sickness could work better as a uniting plot.

I know I have just randomly popped in and don't really have a right to give my opinion, but I really like the idea of a sickness. If we go with a sickness I will definitely have Bramblefeather get it because he is already ill with an infection.
A plot idea: a band of rouges causing the clans trouble, stealing prey from the clan cats when they hunt because the rouges can't hunt from themselves as effectively and that kind of thing?
