New Rule: Doll-Maker Limit

Posted by Ember on March 7, 2015 at 12:05 AM

Recently there has been a large wave of doll-maker created pictures posted on the art pages, my moderators and I are concerned they are turning the attention of the art pages away from member created artwork and don’t fit clearly into the rule requiring all images posted there to be either original, or significantly edited. As well as that, images eat up a lot of bandwidth, which is growing tighter the more new members are accepted onto the website.

From now on, members will be permitted to have five doll-maker created pictures on their album at a time. The number is by picture, not by number of dolls on the picture. For example, if a member posts had one big family tree with 10 different dolls on it, the image would still count as one doll-maker created picture, not ten. Dolls that have been significantly edited will not fall under this category. Whether a doll has been taken directly or significantly edited, the artist must be specifically cited or a link to the doll maker provided. Members may choose which images they wish to have on their album, as long as they have no more than five.

On March 13th, a week from now, I will be going through the albums and removing dolls from albums containing more dolls than allowed under this new rule. The five most recent will be left, assuming the doll-maker itself was properly cited in the description of the picture. If you have more than five dolls on your album, please select which ones you will keep and remove the rest before this date.

I was wondering when a rule like this would be made, not to be smart, but I was seeing way too many of them posted on here. Sure, I sometimes use those to create my characters, but I make 'em, save 'em to my flashdrive/laptop and then write a description of what they look like. I know, I made Bramblefur(before he lost his tail), and Silverwind, yet I didn't really like the whole concept of clogging my album with unoriginal artwork. I mean, it's someone's original artwork, yet not mine. And it probably would take too much time to render the picture enough to even be able to post it and have it not be considered a dollmaker pic, if it wouldn't still be considered a dollmaker picture.

And with those who don't refer to where they got the pictures, references and stuff made on dollmakers, it makes me sad to think about. Since people put so much time and heart into their work and then people don't cite them, basically stealing their art. I wouldn't mind if I drew something for someone and they used it elsewhere, but I would very much hope that they'd cite me for the time I put into my art. It would make me sad if someone ever stole my art and can imagine that other artists are the very same in thinking that.

@Larka you can request other people to do a piece for you. Or, if it helps, ask some one for tips on drawing.

I'm going to assume that cats made on the program created on Deviantart by Neikoish is included in the doll maker count?

Yeah, that's the type of program that I mean.

If a person would make their own doll maker, or just lineart that they use different "skins" on, would those be included as doll maker images or just reused lineart with different designs? Of course, I'm saying that only the person who made the lineart and designs. Of other people would use said lineart, if it was turned into a doll maker, that would count against the doll maker count. I was thinking of making my own, but if that would count as "doll maker" art and not be considered reused lineart with different pelt patterns I may not do that, since I wouldn't want my art being removed. That'd be disappointing. I actually did something similar, yet never actually made a doll maker game with the lineart I made, due to not having the right program to do so.

Line art or doll makers you made yourself count as original art and won't be included under this rule.

@Ember | Ok :) I just wanted to check, just in case I wanted to make one to save time when throwing adoptables together; without using someone else's doll maker. :)
